We have been looking for a camp in Michigan for a while now. I am glad we didn't buy one yet because we have discovered that some second homes in Michigan are taxed at nearly DOUBLE what a primary home is. It is no longer a mystery to us why Michigan is in such poor shape. The people from out of state who buy recreational property are no burden on the school system, etc., so why are they taxed higher? Greed is probably the answer and Michigan can not expect to attract new buyers like that.

For those wishing to compare tax rates in various counties and townships in Michigan, here is a link to a MI property tax estimator:

You have the money to own more than one home you have the money to pay taxes

Also a good way to keep speculators who buy homes to be flipped and artificially raise home values out of the market

Typical liberal insight.
