Judge says he's not a racist though.............
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20091015/D9BBRD900.html
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."
Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.
Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.
"There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage," Bardwell said. "I think those children suffer and I won't help put them through it."
If he did an interracial marriage for one couple, he must do the same for all, he said.

What did the Dims do for the 18 years he was refusing to marry biracial couples? You know HIS choice to leave the DIMS because they nominated a biracial candidate was HIS choice, and you don't have to "apply" to join a political party. You are being intellecutually dishonest by trying to infer that his history of refusing to marry biracial couples for 18 years had anything to do with Republicans. Perhaps you want to also blame Bush for it? You haven't used that limp excuse yet. Why don't you try that one?

Actually you need to research it a bit. Go back to Tennessee (birth place of the Klan) post Civil War and look at the primary uses of the Klan. Most of the attacks were against members of the State Goverment, Radical Reconstructionist Republicans all, especially after the governor stopped a walk out in the State legislature with troops.
It expanded out from there and became a race based organization targeting blacks as a way to control the election of Radical Republicans so the Democrats could regain control of the State Goverment.
So your history is flawed.

So your history is flawed.Yeah, but the second incarnation, formed in the mid 1910's was primarily an anti immigrant, anti catholic, anti jewish, anti black, anti any non protestant christian white. True enough the 20th century Klukkers were a different animal in their rhetoric and function, as well as their bases of power and influence.
But the fact remains that, yes at one point in time the disenfranchised democrats in the south used the Klan to suppress the Radical Republican elements. 1st incarnation, 2nd incarnation shouldn't have to be specified. How about the 3rd incarnation that aligns itself with Neo-Nazi Skinheads not sure the 2nd incarnation would be cool with that.
It's like any organization in grows, evolves, and mutates.

Hahahahahaha...White republicans were primary targets of the Klan? i think they disliked a different group of folks more, I'll give you a hint they had darker skin.
Wrong you are!
The original targets of the Ku Klux Klan were Republicans, both black and white, according to a new television program and book, which describe how the Democrats started the KKK and for decades harassed the GOP with lynchings and threats.
An estimated 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites died from 1882 to 1964, at the hands or ropes of the KKK.
Don't know if you know this, but the Klan was a raced based organization, you seem to think the only criteria you had to meet to join the Klan was to be a Democrat.
Don't know if you know this but the first grand wizard of the KKK was honored at the 1868 Democratic National Convention.
No Democrats voted for the 14th Amendment to grant citizenship to former slaves and, to this day, the party website ignores those decades of racism. Suprise!

Why am I not surprised you went to World News Daily to find an article to defend the Klan?

My guess is that these people could have gotten to another JP to marry them more quickly than it took them to get to a news outlet.
Has Jesse Jackson gotten a group together to go down there, yet?

Who's defending the Klan? Your just having issues coming to terms with the history of Democratic party and it's realtionship to the Klan. The Dems were not always the lib's they are now
nor were Republicans the conservative party. History is what it is whether it suits your view or not.

Whoo Hoooooooooo funniest post of the century?
Guess who started the KKK?
Because the Southern Democrats from 100 years ago reflect the party today.
I am sure you think the Republican Party is same today as well.

Nahh.
And I can and have nuked everyone's butt on this.
Dixiecrats.
Not Dixiecans.
Only two out of the whole lot of them became Republicans.
The rest stayed very racist Democrats.
Politically, the States Rights Party's platform resembled more the Republicans when compared to today. They were socially conservative and were (obviously) in favor of stronger state power.

He is talking about the First Klan. They definitely wouldn't take to kindly to Republicans (especially since many of them were northerners).

I actually feel bad for the guy, probably just old school and doesn't know any better. Probably really thinks he is doing the right thing. I just saw the documentary the other day about the Louisianna schools that have segregated proms. Everyone seemed like nice enough people, just have the old ways of thinking.
Yea, i actually don't feel bad for him, this is not like a 1969 whoopsie.. "ohh my bad, its been a year since the civil rights act , a couple of years since Loving V Virginia, I'm getting used to this whole thing.."
Its 2009 !!!, how many decades does he need to adjust exactly?, unless this guy showed up with some type of time machine, i absolutely do not feel bad for him.
