View Full Version : Creating a truly conservative third party - The American Freedom Party

I have attended Tea Parties and Town Halls and have seen first hand the genuine depth of anger and disgust at what is happening in Washington, D.C., with our economy, our security, our military, our judiciary, our healthcare - it's almost an endless list.

And as conservatives, by and large, our opinions seem to have fallen on deaf ears for the most part because Congress is still plowing ahead in the cocoon that they shield themselves in and are all set to ram unwanted bills on healthcare down our throats like some poison pill in the hands of Robert B. Reich and Cass Sunstein.

We face the prospect that Lindsey Graham, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and possibly several other RINOs along with Blanche-Out Lincoln and other "Blue Dog" democrats will once again form yet another "bipartisan" gang that will once again give our nation the shaft and pass Obama-care so that they can claim their day in infamy with the socialists and totalitarians in Obama's administration who've successfully brided them off.

These RINOs are protected by the Republican Party at the behest of people like Carl Rove who want the party to continue down the road of "inclusiveness" and which is just code language for continuing the "Big Tent" fiasco of the late Lee Atwater.

They have no fear of losing their seats in Congress to much stronger conservatives because of this protection from the national party and people like Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin who always disparage the idea of a third party or more conservative republicans running against them.

And unless a third party of true conservatives comes about to do just that, we will keep facing the prospect of Republicans in congress abandoning their principles.

So let's begin the work of creating a truly conservative third party to challenge the RINO's and the "Blue Dogs".

First we need a good name.

I think the American Freedom Party sounds good and it would fit in nicely with the organization created by Dick Armey which is named FreedomWorks and has its own website.

Also, we need a mascot - I can think of nothing better than the Bald Eagle to challenge the elephant and the jackass.

Also we need a theme/theme song. I propose our official theme song be "America the Beautiful" and/or "God Bless America" and an unofficial song of Freebird.

What we need next is to state our core beliefs which are found in the Declaration of Independence and our US Constitution.

We next need to propose a platform to run upon which is truly conservative, both culturally and economically, and which stands for a strong military and smaller government.

And we need to get started now and enlist the help of the Tea Partyers and TownHallers and 9-12 moms to help with this and to find the candidates we need to do this.

I believe it can be done and should be done starting now.

I would support the formation of a third party.

"American Freedom Party" would not be my choice for a name. It sounds too much like a third party- like a fringe group. It's reminiscent of George Wallace. I think "Liberty Party" or maybe "Conservative Party" would be better.

It probably isn't that important, though.

The main thing you need is money. To get that you have to have a well known personality heading it. I can't think of anybody that could or would do it. That is the first hurdle.

Anyone who claims that a third party cannot be effective does not remember H. Ross Perot.
He drew over 20% of the vote and would have drawn 35 or 40% if he hadn't acted like an idiot and quit in the middle of the race.

Got enough parties, what you need is what Bill stated;money; and ballot access, without both, you'll never break the two party control because there simply isn't enough of us that will vote third party, that was proven last Fall.

The Libertarian Party Platform -->> http://www.lp.org/platform
The Constitution Party Platform -->> http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php

Here are two parties which contain many of the aspects you describe.

Maybe you could compare and contrast what you see as the party platform in terms of...

1. Smaller government
2. Fiscal responsibility
3. Foreign policy
4. Social issues like religion, abortion, and marriage

Ya never know, the party you seek may already exist.
