I was a huge Metallica and Alice In Chains fan. Both are still putting out new music, AIC with a new singer. I gotta say I like the new stuff better than the last stuff they put out before Staley died.

I'm liking Metallicas new stuff too. Better with age?

IMO, Metallica's 1st 4 albums were by far their best. The Black album had some OK songs. The next few releases were awful. St. Anger had some good songs, but the poor production made it unlistenable. I like what I've heard from Death Magnetic so far. I actually bought the CD, but haven't listened to it yet.
It's eerie how much the new AIC chains sounds like Staley is still in the band. (I've only heard the one song on the radio so far.)

Alice in Chains an 80's band?
I'm not sure when they formed but they only came to national attention after Nirvana hit it big in 1992 and record companies rushed to promote every Seattle area band they could get their hands on.

What a lot of people don't realize is that Alice had TWO lead singers. On many of their songs Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell would both be singing at the same time which is what created their unique vocal sound. Since Jerry is still there and still co harmonizing its not that surprising they still sound the same.

just bought the new AIC - absolutely love it. shows that the real heart of the band was cantrell.
and i'm with JeffR - Metallica has been on a downhill slide since AJFA. i think once james thought he could sing, it's all been **** since.
i'll take some Queens of the Stone Age, System of a Down/Scars on Broadway over the crap metallica has been putting out.

The first I heard of them was 1990, with MAN IN THE BOX.

I was more of a Duran Duran, Erasure, A-HA, Cars, Tears for Fears, REO Speed Wagon, Men at Work, Men Without Hats, Information Society, Pet Shop Boys, Chicago, Mister Mister, and Prince kind of guy.
I did like DIO and Twisted Sister a little. :)

They got together in the late 80's and the first stuff out out nationally was 90.
So depending on how you look at it...

That song was that early, I thought it came later? Thinking of them as a possible 80's band seems insulting though to me in some way. The same thinking of Nine Inch Nails as an 80's band does even though NIN is an 80's band since Pretty Hate Machine came out in early 1989.
