So, I was recently involved in a conversation where a guy had little left for his argument. He pulled out this:
"Well, at least I don't fly the WAR flag. I'm sure all the dead Iraqis thank you for flying your WAR flag."
I had no clue what he was talking about. :eh: So he sent me this link:
http://www.barefootsworld.net/uscivilflag.html
The website sets to prove that the typical American flag :flag: we think of is a flag denoting war. He said we are all told to fly the war flag while the evil government keeps us from knowing about a flag designed for flying during times of peace. (Like those exist anymore, but whatever.)
He also cited this website:
http://www.uscivilflags.org/home.html
Which seems to just want to sell flags to people like this gentleman, who told me I wasn't a patriot for flying a war flag. (But he was a patriot for buying a flag from this website. :)) )
Well, I sent him this link:
http://home.myfairpoint.net/vzeo1z2a/CivilFlag.html
Which sets to disprove this civil flag theory. I think they did a good job, but the layout gives me a headache. Click with caution. They basically say the picture of the supposed civil flag is misleadingly captioned, and that the photo shown to support the theory is actually from a ceremony for the U.S. Customs, and that the flag shown is just the U.S. Custom's flag.

Okay, so internet link wars are silly, but I hang around some crazy conspiracy people sometimes, and even the acid-tripping paranoids didn't tell me about this civil/war flag theory.
Have you folks ever heard of this? Do you believe it or not? I tend to think the guy was full of ****, as are the websites he cited. But I think this forum has a good variety of folks who might be able to add something. :D
