View Full Version : I need to be able to defend myself!

I need to be able to go in to the Talk to a moderator forum in order to defend myself. I am getting tired of getting banned cause I cant give my side. This is getting ridiculous. I have been coming here for years and enjoy it here but this past year or so it has become a hostile environment cause I have no recourse. I know there is a good chance me even posting this means I might get banned but what can I say I had no choice. I dont ask for special treatment I just ask for the same as all the other members here.

You werent given a time out because you couldnt give your side. You honestly think that if you defended calling someone a liar you wouldnt have got a time out?
Just sayin

I think if the person Lies and I call him on it I dont need the time out. I have gotten timed out at least twice that I know I deserved. Once I got a time out for just being in a thread. Now if I just annoy someone I can be brought to the talk to a moderator forum. Fine thats how it is suppose to be....But since I cant go there how do I give my side? It is kinda like having to defend yourself from a crime but you nor your lawyer is allowed to go into the court.
I should have the same rights as every other member on here. Period. It is no more than that. I got banned and I am back The banning is done with and old news. Yet how am I suppose to be able to defend myself from future problems?

How about simply obey the rules of the forum? Thats what you are going to be told.
There are ways of calling people on untruthful statements without calling them a liar.

Yes. Have been for months now.

Well, that being the case I can see your point.
HOW do you defend yourself in TTTM if you actually cannot see the posts/complaints...and are specifically excluded from participating in that forum?
That's rather unusual to be banned from TTTM. Why did that happen?

Cause I made an ass out of myself in it.....I was wrong. But that was months ago

Can you PM the moderator involved and make an apology and ask for reinstatement that way?

Actions have consequences apparently. Go figure.
Maybe you should PM a mod and ask for MOD forum access back by apologizing for your past behavior instead of creating this thread in GI whining about it.

I did

Apparently it didn't help.
I don't think this thread is going to be helpful either.
I wish you luck, though. I don't know what else to suggest.

That was going to be my advice as well Jeny. Only option left really.
Thantos; Our mods here do work tirelessly to keep this a forum where everyone can post and share idea's. I can't imagine they would set it up where you couldn't post to one of them in case of a future issue. PM to any one of them should work ...for now. May I suggest PM'ing the mod that gave you the ban/time out...as they will have a better understanding of why your PM'ing them instead of posting in TTTM forum.
A very wise poster told me a few years back...this is just a message forum. Nothing personal in how or what we post..if you become emotional/passionate..perhaps it time to step away from the keyboard? It's saved my hide a few times.
Good luck Thantos...and, give yourself some credit...your still here...right? ;)

i would like to point out that you... or anyone else... do not have any "rights" on these boards.....
you only have privilages, which the mods can revoke at any time if they feel you are abusing them........

I have received one time out . There is no way I could have logically defended my actions on that one.
From what I have witnessed, if there is any real doubt as to the validity of a charge, the mods will ask the accused to explain it.

I need to be ...
you went about this in not such a good way...
"moderator action" is not supposed to be discussed on the open boards.
apologize for your actions, by PM to a mod
and ask to be reinstated to the mod forum.
Ask the moderator who kicked you out of the mod forum.
btw: the facts are the facts--if you commit a foul, then the hammer is gonna fall no matter what the "defense" is.

Never gotten a TO myself. Warnings, yes, but no actual temporary or permanent ban.

Me neither. And it isn't that difficult. This is a message board, I can always shut down the window if I'm that ****ed off.

If you are trying to get the community to rally behind you and pressure the mods, i can tell you that that is not going to happen they are not easily swayed by that kind of pressure. Like others have pointed out already your best course of action is too message a mod and ask to have your access to tttm restored, it might involve eating crow, but that is just how it is.

FWIW, the post that you requested I show the mods in that thread as your defense...I linked to it in the complaint thread. They read your defense, and were so moved by it that they deleted it, in addition to all the other violations you had in the thread. Given that info, I'm not sure how much your presense in the complaint thread would have helped your case.
The unfortunate fact for you is this: you are not allowed to call honored guests a liar, even if you think they are.
The even more unfortunate fact for you is this one: No one you've accused of lying recently has lied...and we have your posting history to back that up.
If you can't discuss things with us hated libertarians without resorting to calling us liars, perhaps you'd be better off putting us all on ignore, so you won't have to worry about being banned for violating TOS.

I am not rehashing this argument. This isnt about my past screw ups or wrongdoings it is about the future accusations and childishness.
Oh by the way next time I will use different words if I ever deal with you again.

Just sayin....
Edit to add: Actually, sometimes if the accuser is being childish as well, mods will ban them too, so I guess my statement wasn't 100% accurate.

T, DaGoose had an excellent post in TTTM a few days ago, I left out the first paragraph but the rest ;I think; says a lot and something we should all remember, it just might keep us all out of hot water.
I hope Goose don't mind.....
But here's the thing, and I'm just speaking for me. Regardless of our likes or dislikes, we are charged with maintaining this forum. And there's no pleasing everybody. We ban people for clear violations, and we're horrible mods. Or, we're accused of being biased, and therefore horrible mods. So, no matter what we do, we're seemingly ticking somebody off.
But the truth of the matter is, and there really is no getting around this. People are responsible for their actions. They know the rules. And they willingly choose to break them. We give warning after warning. And they continue to defy the rules, as if they're flat out daring us to drop the hammer. We're not holding a gun to their head, making them type violations. They do it of their own free will.
But you, are sitting here bitching at us for their actions. They commit the violations, why don't you bitch at them...
It's a freaking internet forum, it's not real life. People need to stop making things so freakin personal, and just discuss things like you discuss it with your mother or your best friend. You don't know me, I don't know you. We're strangers. But ask yourself, would any of you treat a stranger you meet on the street, the way you treat some others on these boards? I think not.
I realize, it's very safe in front of your keyboard, and there's a tendency to be far more brave in the sanctuary of your home or office. But that doesn't make it right to violate the rules of this society any more than it's ok to break the rules of actual society. Lighten up, discuss the issues, leave the "you" out of it. But don't blame us for the actions of those we ban. It's not our goal to ban. It is our responsibility. Our responsibility to the forum. And our responsibility to the forum has to take priority over the individuals that make it go.
That's just the way it is.

Gold Star to Goose, and also to John for quoting it here. Don't want to be banned....don't violate the rules. And I apply that to myself as well...If I had a dollar for every post I was about to make and then decided against it because it just wasn't worth it, I wouldn't need my job....weeeeell, okay, maybe that's an exageration, but I could buy a pretty darn nice PC.
The point is, its easy to let things get too personal if you let it, particularly when discussing a topic like politics. But in the end, we're all just guests here. Why agree to abide by the rules in exchange for the privilidge of sharing our thoughts with others. And if we allow ourselves to let things get too personal for too long, we're going to find ourselves on the outside looking in.

It is fairly easy to get timed out if you are not paying attention. It hasn't happened to me ... yet... but you can get timed out simply for quoting a banable offense. I have seen that happen to a couple of "old timers" recently. Considering that unless the offense is clearly obvious (which they are not all clear, as evidenced by the adjudication that goes on regarding offenses in the TTTM Forum) you can easily miss the offense and be off on your merry way and suddenly find yourself on vacation. What that "domino" rule does, is make us more vigilant, but still... it is very easy to miss something, particularly if the banable comment that you quote is buried in a long post. I liken it to walking through a mine field, but hey... that is the way it is and if I want to continue here I must accept the risk that I could step on a mine that I never saw.
On the other hand... a forced vacation now and then does us no harm. My wife might even rejoice. ;)
Still, I hope you did not say something that I quoted that will get you banned. :D
