I have to admit the guy has a point. Look at all the saber rattling we did during Bush's term and the whole "Axis of Evil" schpiel. We sanctioned the hell out of Iran and nothing happened. Well, I guess technically something happened - they built a ton of certerfuges, have greatly expanded their nuclear program, have purchased the best AAA systems for defense and are on the verge of building nuclear weapons.

I am about sanctioned out. How about we do something that might do something unexpected like, oh I don't know, work.

No, the point that Obama made just last week was that the sanctions that he decided to level at Iran through the UN was going to stop them cold and he can't even get unification on the sanctions so he is shelving them for a later date.

I was not blaming Bush as much as I was pointing out Lavrov had a good argument for Russia's position. The OP attempted to blame Obama for yet another perceived issue but the bigger question is what do we do next. Bush thought he had the right plan by chest thumping and sanctions. That didn't work. Obama is being pushed to continue more of the same. Should he continue on a plan that I think could be argued has accomplished little? Can we break some new ground here?

The point being that the sanctions were weakened by our own congress playing into Iranian hands and the sabotage of russia and others who are allied with Iran for their own self-serving purposes.

The previous administration warned you, and a weary, attention-span deficient public failed to listen, even as sanctions worked in Korea. This was helped along by the media.
