It isn't.
There are just more men in power than women.
I've been wondering for a while what would happen when a female politician gets in trouble for screwing around. We've only had women in politics for a few years, and very few were ever in real power. I'm sure some have had affairs, they just haven't been caught yet.

Men can only cheat if there is a woman willing to play along. Unfortunately there are way too many women in this world who sell themselves easily to be with a man who has power. Somehow these stupid women think that this gives them some value. I mean look at these men. If they did not have money and power they they’d have a problem getting any woman to go out with them.
Look at Trump these days… he’s just downright creepy looking. His manner of speaking, with his mouth all pursed up, is disgusting. The gold digger, trophy women he likes would not give him a second look without his money.
Men are not as likely to be gold digging, trophies. And few men would be willing to go out with the female physical equivalent of Trump.
It’s basically the age old thing of women being able to get their own money and power only through a man. The world has changed in some ways.. but for many women this is still the only route they know.

I think that Sex Drive is so entirely different between the genders as to make it SEEM like men do most of the cheating! But, as women should well know, emotional cheating is also VERY rampant among the female gender!
This Newsweek article explains that there are different reasons why men and women become sexually aroused: http://www.newsweek.com/id/216341. Warning: text descriptions of mild sexual situations.
Men experience an increase of sex drive primarily due to sight. We're a visual gender! Women apparently like SITUATIONS more than pure visual stimulation. For example, self-confidence producing and traditionally romantic events.
Couple this with the fact that I feel that marriage is no longer an essential component of our daily survival (it used to be back prior to the 1850's), and you get more people divorcing and cheating than ever before.

First, this OP highlights men of power and wealth so they are also men in the spotlight. Psychologically, for a man of power and wealth includes "women". They are much more inclined to do this. I think we are still at a point where women who attain this kind of stature are much more focused on the drive that gets them that stature. Sex may be a need but not part of the drive. Their flings if they have them are probably more subtle and less inclined to attract attention.
In the real world, there are plenty of women doing that same but Nancy down the street having an affair isn't news. Plus, there is a somewhat deserved stereotype of the male where sex is behind a great deal of what they do so it's more likely to come up when something goes south.
So, men that can, do it because they can. Women are less apt to need to.

I thought that too and was going back and forth on whether I should say it. Yes, some men cheat, and I blame them for it, but a part of me also blames the woman who goes along with it and has an affair knowing that the guy is married. I was hit on when I was single by married men, I wouldn't of given 1 thought to go out with them.
When I worked in the Hospital quite a few married Doctors cheated on their wives with Nurses, and a few of them even left their wives for the Nurses, then a few years down the road the Nurse would be shocked that their Husband would cheat on them. You've got to be kidding, why are you shocked, he cheated on his 1st wife with you, why would you be any different?

I've seen SEVERAL beautiful women married to fugly looking men who were middle class and beneath the middle class status. I have a friend now who is in her early 20's, she is GORGEOUS, she has a model-like body and face, and when you see her out with her husband it leaves you scratching your head. He is your classic nerdy looking insecure guy, who talks w/ a speech impediment. I agree with everything else, but i wanted to put it out there that women just seem to be more accepting of the ugly. Of course God don't make ugly, it's just our perception.

Maybe we should make a seperate post for the skanks who cheat with married men, but I don't want this to turn into the Eve and Adam thread where we put all the blame on Eve;)
I'm sorry but men are not so weak that they can't turn a woman down. Is it tempting? Of course, but it comes down to a man will do what he WANTS to do. I am sure there are men out there(and maybe even reading this thread) who have been propositioned while married but they had enough sense to walk the other way, just as you did. Men CAN control themselves, these women aren't beating them, and handcuffing their hands behind their backs.

They're not beating them, but I think sometimes women prey on weakness, and if they see it in a man they'll jump at it.

The reason is simple. Men are careless and they cheat for totally different reasons. A female president for example, is not likely to be having sex on Lincoln's desk, if she is going to cheat, she wants a relationship, not a hot monkey sex fling. But a male president? Where ever the bimbo wants to do it is just fine.

Well, pointing out the obvious, men don't risk getting pregnant with a fling so they're more willing to it thinking they won't get caught.
That's not to say men don't risk anything. It's just not so obvious to us.
I remember hitting Malaga, Spain in the Navy and the ship's Chief Corpsman giving the old "Men, Don't Let This Happen To You" talk saying that coincidentally, we would be crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a week which is about the same amount of incubation period for getting the clap so any cheating done in Spain that resulted in a dose would be in full force about the time the wife started asking questions like "Honey, why are you screaming in agony when you pee?" right after we got back stateside.
Of course, men can be hit with a paternity lawsuit which is also kind of hard to explain to the wife, but again, men don't think it can happen to them while women are well aware that they can wind up with a baby while engaging in reproductive behavior.
Women are just more careful due to reasons of anatomy. To a man, a one-night-stand only lasts one night. To a woman, it could last 9 months. Or require an abortion, which by all accounts is no fun either.

Congress is made up of 83% men.
Governorships are around 80% men.
It natural that when you hear of a cheating politician, it will probably be a man- 4 or 5 to1.
Add to that the fact that most of the high profile political women like Clinton, Mikulski, Feinstein, Pelosi, Janet Reno and Madeleine Albright would have to wear sacks over their heads to get a man in bed with them. Either that or pay him several thousand dollars.
I don't know anything about the Hollywood people. I don't read about them or keep up with them.
Of the people I personally have known or worked with, plenty of women cheat. I've known of more men who cheat, because men tend to brag about it and women don't.

Well, I don't think she's technically cheating if she's not in a relationship herself, but she is pretty stupid if she knows the guy she's with is being unfaithful because a cheater is a cheater is a cheater and won't be any more faithful with his mistress than he is with his wife.
Then there's the divorce and the alimony. It turned out that the CBS producer out to extort David Letterman, Robert "Joe" Halderman, was on the hook for an INCREDIBLE $6,000 per month in child support. Ex-wives with kids don't come cheap and women who are second in line will probably find out that their predecessor won't leave them much.

The fact that this woman married this man means that she is not like the women who Trump goes out with. She may be as beautiful as those women, but she is not a gold digger and status seeker. Looks are not the only part of the equation for those women... money and power are their goals... their looks are their tool.

Hello T_W,
It's more about ego and reputation and how 'the double standard' is applied.
These particular men spoken of here have giant egos that constantly need inflation till they go 'boom' like a hydrogen dirigible. (Roman Polanski), (Bill Clinton).
By that time though they have the money and power to rehabilitate their 'mistakes' by being forgiven by the masses through their 'public apologies' for uncontrollable proclivities. (IE: David (the big worm) Letterman.>> "Waiter; I'll have another staffer for an appetizer" or Polanski>> So what if she was 13.....she seduced me). Rehabilitating their egos is incalculable while establishing themselves as 'studs extraordinaire'.
I'm sure most of them had Mothers' with 'square nipples' and the early deprivation of life building nutrients caused a variety of lifelong problems. These (physical and mental) defects of emaciated acuity must have been caused by this fundamental malnutrition. For, of course, it Must be the fault somehow of some woman if the double standard does indeed apply.
With women it's much more about 'reputation'; being relegated to the status of being a 'slut' or a gold digger. It doesn't much matter for the 'Gold-digger' if the 'payday' at the end of having these 'home-wrecking' abilities is substantial. It's certainly worth the remuneration they've earned. (Anna Nichole Smith for example).
Women are much more adept at leading the 'Secret Life of Walter Mitty's Wife' for the obvious reason; social branding is still done with voracious appetites towards the Feminine Gender. (This done adeptly by women also as in the 'misunderstood' Whoopi Goldberg comments about it wasn't "Rape, Rape") This should be avoided at all costs by them if at all possible in avoiding social ruination & catastrophical carnage to their 'pristine' reputations.
Perhaps this will summon it up for you in a one sided quote from a conversation I had with my X at the end of our divorce:
"If I were to live a thousand lifetimes; I would never be as devious as the simplest woman ever born who had lived just one single life in obscurity".
Hey! So...I'm having some skull-cracking Freudian moments! I apologize! Am I forgiven?
Jim
PS: Perhaps Google will pay extra for creating the 'mothers with square nipples and the side effects' demographic category. Whoops! Another Freudian moment. Time to quit while I'm way behind.

PSSS: I can take no credit whatsoever for the 'square nipples' thing at all. This was related to me by one of my younger Sisters in paraphrasing a Nun who spoke at a seminar she attended. We all have an invisible garden when we get married. It is up to us to till, plant, fertilize and water. If we do not...there is nothing to eat. It takes time, love, patience, respect, trust, companionship and a sincere commitment. Those of us who were married that made a "promise" to our spouse and the Lord...gave our word.
We are only as good as, "our word".

Generally speaking, the man cheats, he loses everything, the marriage, the kids, the house and he generally gets the pleasure to write a monthly check to the ex. The woman cheats and the man still loses the marriage, the kids, the house and gets to write the check.
Men are idiots for getting married in the first place.

There is a very funny episode where he states that as long as you have a good house keeper, a steady flow of women, why do you ever want to get married unless you just have a strong desire to "split half of your stuff". Your comment reminded me strongly of him.

There was an article in I think USA Today this week that dealt with this. Their explanation is that public men - men who make their living in the public - (politicians and sports stars, for instance,) suffer much more from the psychological state of narcissism than public women, and that one of the primary traits of narcicism is infidelity, based on a perception of entitlement.

Their explanation is that public men - men who make their living in the public - (politicians and sports stars, for instance,) suffer much more from the psychological state of narcicism than public women, and that one of the primary traits of narcicism is infidelity, based on a perception of entitlement.

Intersting take,and it sounds logical.

I'd think it would be the opposite, logically, because "public men" more than anybody else depend on their reputations for a livelihood.
That's why the idjut blackmailing David Letterman thought his silence was worth $2 Million clams, because guys like him live and die on their reputations.
Dan Rather sued CBS for $70 Million claiming he lost that as a result of his "resignation" after airing the infamous memo on W. Bush, and I don't doubt that his reputation was worth that, but he's the one who blew it, not CBS.
There were a lot of things wrong with the $2 Million extortion attempt, but the price tag wasn't one of 'em. People in the public eye who hang their hat on their reputation really do have that much to lose if it's destroyed so why would they risk it? It just doesn't stand to reason. The only reason they find themselves in such positions is because they took care of their reputations.

Yes, you think it WOULD be the opposite, but it's not. The article said that the narcissism takes over all logic and gives them the feeling of entitlement to those things that mear mortals are forbidden to engage in. Their brains may say, "Not smart," but their guts and their emotions propel them anyway. Look at Clinton. He HAD TO KNOW how dangerous his behavior was, but he was literally incapable of restraining himself. Somewhere in his psyche he felt that because he was President he deserved more; needed more; was entitled to more. His need for affirmation, stemming from narcissism, was that acute.
Here is a link to the article:

From the article:
Ambition and narcissism are occupational hazards for all political leaders," says Stanley Renshon, a political psychologist at City University of New York and author of books dealing with psychological issues and political behavior. "Infidelity is a byproduct of narcissism."

You're talking about Monica Lewinsky, who wasn't all that a-cute. At least JFK held out for Marilyn Monroe, but Monica Lewinsky was not calendar girl class and doesn't seem like a femme fatale capable of getting a President to step out of his pants.
When you talk about the "narcissism" derangement I think of freakish metrosexuals who wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt unless they had designer labels prominently displayed.
I don't see how that attracts women. The women I know like men who work hard, drive pickup trucks and know how to use basic hand tools. They're the ones who are supposed to know how to use blow dryers and play dress-up.

I read the article and my take on it is this: If politicians are so interested in sex, why don't they ever have more than a couple of kids? The last three presidents we've had, none ever had more than two kids. You'd think that guys prone to infidelity would have more than two kids.

And yet, she did! But then, look at Hillary, and it all becomes easier to accept.

That's because you're confusing narcissism with a lack of manliness. Nothing could be further from the truth. Many of our best known male sports figures suffer from narcissism. It is simply a personality trait that is manifest in self-love to a much higher degree than normal or healthy. It is EASY to understand why it shows up in politicians, who have a desire to put themselves out there all the time, telling us what wonderful folks they are. It comes EASIER for them to do so. Some need the constant stroking of affirmations that they get as leaders. And the same traits that allow them to have little humility are the same traits that allow them to think they are entitled to stray.

They're interested in sex, not taking care of kids. Besides, as the article said, not all leaders are narcissists, but all narcissists try to become leaders. They simply think they alone can do the job better.
I brought up Clinton, because he is the most egregious example we've had in recent history. He was pathalogically narcissistic, I think. He was the "Zelig" president - the guy who could empathize instantly with everyone, and "feel their pain," and for the same reason as Zelig - He needed to be accepted, loved and ego-stroked, and that's why he had a long history of women troubles. He equated conquering women with manliness and sex with validation. He needed it in vast quantities to assuage his narcissism. He also could, and still can, EXPLODE with anger at anyone who tries to diminish his ego. We've all seen the visceral reaction he has had on occasion to criticism. Did you ever see either Bush 41 or 43 have the same kind of reaction? No. They both took criticism with a shrug. They were not infected with the narcissism.

Settle down. Now i know women do their share but doesn't anyone find it odd that in Hollywood and politics, it's always the married man that is stepping out on his wife?
Edwards
Clinton
Mel Gibson
Trump
Spitzer
Letterman
Gosselin
A few of the Kennedy's
Those are just a few, b/c I can't keep up w/ them all, and i forgot several of their names, but it's really getting sickening!
Women cheat heck I have had a few married women come on to me and some made it clear they were looking for something on the side.

Surprisingly this topic was on DATELINE last night. They went as far as to say that some men have a ''cheat gene'' Great, just another way to get rid of personal responsibility.
Oh, and the sats, of the cheaters; 60% are men and 40% are women.

One thing that always had me baffled about men – “if a guy knows that he is not capable of being faithful to one woman, why do you get married?”
If I know I am not capable of cooking an eight course dinner – I don’t do it.
If I know I am not capable of climbing Mount Everest - I don’t do it.
If I know I am not capable of passing a trigonometry class - I don’t do it.
IT IS VERY SIMPLE, FOLKS, DON’T DO SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF!
I have never been married because I know I was not capable of living with someone 24/7. It was pretty clear to me to stay away from this.
I have realized from the get go, that when one divorces your entire life is usually turned upside down – psychologically, financially, spiritually (most religions frown upon or forbid divorce), your children are affected, and many times, your children’s future relationships and their marriages are affected by their parent’s horrendous marriage.
And, men, who think cheating behaivor is "cute and funny" and laugh at cheating behavior by other men, should remember, that men too are affected by this behavior. I can't tell you how many men I have known in my own life, who have had fathers who cheated, left, and abandoned their families. And these fathers' sons have been devastated, very often, their whole lives by their fathers who were never around for them.
If there is anything good to be said about Barack Obama, at least he is a good role model for blacks, and men, in general, about maintaining a faithful marriage. So far we haven't heard any sleaze about him. I have to give him that

From a male perspective: the drive to have sex is HUGE. I'm talking nearly all-consuming, here.
Many women make preconditions for sexual activity including exclusivity and eventual marriage. Other women do not make those preconditions during an otherwise purely sexual relationship, but eventually they desire some form of monogamy. "Settling down," if you will. And finally, yet more women become bored with a partner over time and move on to new and more exciting prospects (women do cheat just like men do...).
In this sort of sexual battlefield, it is very tempting for a man to have a constant sexual companion.
I have never been married because I know I was not capable of living with someone 24/7. It was pretty clear to me to stay away from this.
I feel the same way, but it is INCREDIBLY HARD to find a woman of the same mind who is my age. Misconceptions of marriage abound and they often paint marriage in a far more optimistic light. I find that most marriages ultimately end in divorce, with the state dividing your assets straight down the middle.
I have realized from the get go, that when one divorces your entire life is usually turned upside down – psychologically, financially, spiritually (most religions frown upon or forbid divorce), your children are affected, and many times, your children’s future relationships and their marriages are affected by their parent’s horrendous marriage.
Agreed entirely.
I have thought long and hard about types of monogamous relationships that would not only benefit society but also the individuals, and I just cannot think of viable alternatives. Human beings weren't really meant to live as long as we do, and our emotional hormone cycles haven't adapted to our longer lifespans.
People get bored and sexual rhythms fluctuate between couples.
And, men, who think cheating behaivor is "cute and funny" and laugh at cheating behavior by other men, should remember, that men too are affected by this behavior. I can't tell you how many men I have known in my own life, who have had fathers who cheated, left, and abandoned their families. Those men are idiots and have little control over their actions. Sadly, they are statistically more likely to reproduce (the statistics elude me, but it's a logical quandary: they're having more sex and run the risk of more pregnancies).
If there is anything good to be said about Barack Obama, at least he is a good role model for blacks, and men, in general, about maintaining a faithful marriage. So far we haven't heard any sleaze about him. I have to give him that
Yes, but it still might be a veneer.

Wasn't the excuse of it is in our genes due to evolution already used about 10 years ago, since we needed to populate the planet and women could only give birth to one kid at a time most of the time and this took 9 months. So we needed to get as many women pregnant as possible to populate the Earth?

Well, it's not a way to dispose of personal responsibility.
Take people that undergo anger management, for instance. Their anger is a result of lower expression of the gene monoamine oxidase. They are able to control their anger; however, meaning that personal choice plays a large role in personal responsibility.
It's just harder for them to control their anger, is all.
