I loved Zork.

Zork II frustrated me to death though as I made all the way to the end but could never quite figure out a puzzle near the end.

I didn't play Zork III enough to get a good feel for it.

Pool of Radiance

Played this a lot as well as all the sequels to it. About ten years ago I bought a box set that had all five of the games in the series in it but for the current gen PC's. Problem was that the games still ran on the old Dos style computers so you had to install a program on your computer to dumb it down otherwise the battles went so fast you couldn't tell what happened.

I only ever played the first one but I had the D&D adventure which was basically a cheat book.

And I've got the gray hairs to prove it. And thankful for just having the gray hair.

Remember the cloth map that came with the original Ultima game?

I used to use it as a keyboard cover for years.

I still have the cloth map and moonstone from Ultima 5. Plus the decoder wheels from Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds. Hell, I even have the Buck Rogers' games from that genre.

Which one was it that had the whirpool you had to go down in order get to where you could advance your stats? That frustrated me to no end because it took me forever to figure that out. I always avoided the whirlpool and I think it was the very last guy in the whole game that I talked to that finally mentioned something about going down the whirlpool.

I didn't play the original Ultima games.

I did play Ultima Online for a little while. That seems like a really long time ago.

I get a big laugh listening to my friends kids bitch about having to wait 30 sec for their x-box to load.

Moebius: The Orb of Celestial Harmony
Phantasie III : The Wrath of Nikademus

Both 4 & 5 had the whirlpools, but to increase stats, I'm not sure. In 5, you would visit the Shrines, go to the Codex, back to the Shrine, and get your stat boost, in addition to getting them while leveling.

Whirlpools were a pain, especially at night.

Yeah, I played The Bard's tale and Zork. The one that I loved though was Dungeon Master on the old Atari 520, many's the time I would jump out of my seat when I was silently exploring a dungeon and something suddenly jumped out at me...

Scared the bejaysus out of me......:))........

Yep.

And if you wiped you got to reload it all over again. But amazingly it was no big deal.

All the Infocom games but my favs were Planetfall and Stationfall. Yup guys, I played them on my old double 5 1/4 floppy portable Compaq (the size of a large sewing machine) with the amber screen. Oops - who can forget all the Carmen SanDiego's too.

I'm envious. My version of Wasteland was for the Apple 2GS and in the intervening years two of the six double sided floppies have gone missing.

Oh man, those bring back some memories. Don't forget this cheezetastic written in Apple Basic "Swordquest". I hacked the game so my characters all had monster stats. Then there was the rare "2300" which was a sci fi kind of game. Lots of fun.

The first computer RPG game, I don't remember the name for, but was on the TI99 and required a tape drive. AUDIOTAPE drive hooked up to it. It was so wild.

There were two other 'text with picture' adventure games that I remember but never figured out. One was searching what I thought was an abandoned house that I ended up being chased by a suit of armor wherever I went and couldn't do anything after a while and a stupid mouse. The other was some sort of fantasy game going through the woods.
