Police: Dad tells 4-year-old cocaine is candy; boy shares it at day care

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey police say a 4-year-old boy shared cocaine with his friends at day care because his father told him it was candy.

Newark police say 25-year-old Shaheed Wright of East Orange put several baggies of cocaine inside his son's jacket after police nearly caught him with it.

The boy shared the drugs with three other 4-year-olds at his day care center Friday.

A teacher spotted a girl with a baggie in her mouth and called authorities after seeing the white powdery substance.

The children were taken to a hospital, but none were injured.

Police found more baggies of cocaine after searching the boy's pockets.

Wright was charged with four counts of child endangerment and drug offenses.

Full extent of the law for this scum.

Substance abuse is not a victimless crime.

Hope the New Jersey Child Protection services are better than in New Mexico.

There are some truely stupid people in this world. What did this idiot think his kid would do with candy?

I've never tasted cocaine but I imagine it does not tast like candy. But kids will sometimes eat anything with enough encouragement.

When I was 1 year old, my sister (2 years older than I), fed me a bottle of asprine she found in my great uncle's bedroom. I hate the whole thing and ended up in the hospital.

These children are lucky that they did not suffer any ill effects from the drug.

Most definitely.

I don't think this is a fair conclusion because of the father's stupidity. If he had left a power tool laying around and the kid found it and hurt himself would you ask for the banning of all power tools.

Most definitely.

Glad you agree.

I don't think this is a fair conclusion because of the father's stupidity.

This was not an accident or an oversight, this was substance abuse, giving cocaine to a child is criminal child endangerment of a child, at the very least.

How or why the father had the cocaine is of no relevance to me, the criminal acts he committed with it, the victimization of his child and the other children is.

If he had left a power tool laying around and the kid found it and hurt himself would you ask for the banning of all power tools.

"would you ask for the banning of all power tools"

I have not asked for the banning of anything?

That is reading way too much meaning into my post.

Had he negligently left a dangerous tool lying where his kid got hold of it and hurt himself or hurt other kids I would expect the authorities to investigate and file charges if warranted.

Wow that was stupid..and dangerouse.
Thats is the drug culture like it or not things like this happen because drugs are so commen.
Why is it a struggle for millions every year? Open boarders make easy access to our streets and our kids to keep the billions of dollers flowing in the drug trade. Police try as they might to stop the blight cant if the laws on the federal level are not enforced.
The elite loved the drugs..so much so closing the boarder would have shut the party down. Mean while our city streets reflect the wreckage of a wasted population.

This man made a horrible choice to place his child in danger but it's part of the culture made to look like glamor with charm.

He wasnt thinking of his kid but his drugs like all addicts do.

Yeah, that was a refreshing respite, a much needed break from the norm.

I can take heart though because I know there are more stories like that, stories which happen millions of times everyday, you can find these stories framed on the walls and in photo albums or video tape libraries of homes all across the nation.

Those kinds of moments get me inside every time. I didn't have a dad like that, so just seeing a good dad out and about really makes me tear up. Nothing is more precious to me than father-child moments.
