I am so proud of my wife and what she is doing with her students today. She is a public school teacher but her students are getting a lesson today that I doubt many are getting across the country in our public schools.
Here's her note to me from just a few minutes ago about her plans for this afternoon.
"I am going to start teaching it at 1:30 until the end of the day. I even found a cool e-tour online to put on the smartboard. The kids will get to “meet” the delegates who signed the Constitution. They will learn about the Bill of Rights, which a cartoon version of Thomas Jefferson will explain to them. There is an online quiz and a What’s Wrong with this Picture activity, with things on them that goes against the Bill of Rights. The kids have to fix the picture. They even mention the right to bear arms! Then we will watch Charlie Brown: The Birth of the Constitution."
I love you honey, thank you for educating our children! :D

Update: I asked her how it was going. Here's What She Says
The e-tour was a little over their heads! They did get the hang of The Bill of Rights activity. I put it in their words! They also liked listening to the “delegates” which said funny stuff sometimes. They will understand it much better after recess when I show Charlie Brown!

Congratulations to your wife for fighting the good fight!
If I had it to do all over again knowing what I do now I would have bought tons of Microsoft stock in the initial offering and gone into teaching.

Yeah, I would like to go back and accept the programming job that Bill Gates offered me back before they went public. Things that could have changed your life. ;)

Why doubt it? Seriously, don't give me hunches or a couple of examples here and there. There are 90,000 schools in this country, what makes you think that teachers in those schools aren't altering their lesson plans to include the US Constitution? There are 3.2 million of us in this country, how many of us do you know that you can make the assumption that we aren't going to honor this day just like your wife. I am sick to death of everyone in here making asinine assumptions based on virtually NOTHING but their personal opinion
BTW, every social studies teacher in my building changed their lesson plans to deal with something from the US Constitution today. We did building wide Constitutional minutes over the PA all day long.

Perhaps you were so busy patting yourself on the back for being so patriotic that you failed to notice that September 17th... yesterday... was National Constitution and Citizenship Day. If you had not followed that lesson plan, you probably would not have received you gold star for the day and been made to stand in the corner. ;)

UHHHH, no offense intended, but from what she is planning on doing as listed in the message, that should read soon to be a former public school teacher. I sure do hope that I am wrong about the former part. Teaching an unapproved version of the history of the founding fathers is grounds for dismissal in today's politically correct environment. Remember truth has nothing to do with education anymore.

God it must be great being a student in your class. How many kids have you inspired with that crappy attitude? I pray that my kids never, ever get a teacher like you.

My daughter is in first year college. She told me that the other day the instructor asked this question. How many know what "Affirmative Action" means"? Out of 45 ( mostly recent high school grads), she & one other raised their hands.
My daughter loves this "Political Science" class. She wants to know all she can find out. I have a hard time understanding why she has to take Algebra, a language they tell you that you'll never use, instead of more American History & American Politics.

Others have been asking for it too. Unfortunately she got it through her subscription to weekly reader and the only way you can view it is if she puts in her pass word and such. If I come up with a way I will post it here.
