What a tragic story. She was supposed to be married this past Sunday...

(NECN: New Haven, Conn.) - Yale University lab technician Raymond Clark III was arrested on Thursday in the murder of Yale graduate student Annie Le, whose body was found stuffed behind the wall of a campus laboratory at 10 Amistad Street.

New Haven Police Chief James Lewis said Clark was arrested and his bond was set for $3 million. He had been staying at a hotel in Cromwell, Conn. About 25 miles north of New Haven.
"A few minutes ago Raymond J. Clark III, 24 years of age of Middletown, Connecticut, was arrested at a hotel in Cromwell, Connecticut," Chief Lewis said.

Clark's DNA was tested after police deemed him a "person of interest" in the case, and executed a search warrant to obtain it. Clark worked in the lab building in which Le studied.

There was a report on Thursday that Clark sent Le a text message asking to meet up (http://www.necn.com/Boston/New-England/2009/09/17/Report-Clark-texted-Le-about/1253186877.html).

----

It appears Clark was upset over Le's treatment of..................mice? So he killed her?

Article:

Sources also said investigators are finding evidence that the pint-size scientist who weighed only 90 pounds put up a fierce struggle against her attacker.

Blood spatter was found on a laundry cart, and a bead from her necklace was found on the floor of the basement lab where she was killed and stuffed into a wall panel.
Police also found a pair of bloody surgical gloves.

ABC News has also learned that Clark sent a text message to Le early Tuesday, Sept. 8, requesting a meeting to discuss the cleanliness of the the cages of the mice in the research lab.

Le, a 24-year-old Ph.D. candidate, used the mice in her research. Clark, also 24-years-old, is not a student at the university and had more of a custodial role in the lab.

There is some evidence that he is a bit unstable..but finding his DNA in a building in which he works is not stunning.

I have no idea what's up here, so I'm reserving judgment. Very sad for Le's family and friends.

I thought maybe he was mad b/c she may have rejected his advanes. I wonder if this is the first person he killed..surely he's come across others that have done worse?

I hear ya, but his past run-ins' with women and police aren't working in his favor right about now.

I had read that Clark had scratches on his chest and that they issued a warrant to take his DNA. I'll bet they found his DNA under her fingernails which resulted in the arrest.

Hard to tell what his motive is, and if he's actually the killer at this point in time. Still too soon to tell. I'd actually be shocked if he was an animal rights advocate. If he took care of a mouse colony for any amount of time it'd be akin to being a slaughterhouse guard. I'd doubt that any extremist animal rights advocate would last more than a week as a technician for a mouse colony.

This could be incriminating, but we still don't know all the details.

Clark most likely has a B.S. in Biology and decided against pursuing a masters, so he became a lab technician. They're mostly in charge of cleaning cages and taking care of mouse lines for the research labs. This is a fairly common thing for Biology majors to do, especially since a B.S. in Biology doesn't get you far in the actual life sciences!

Because of the way that a mouse colony is typically set-up, researchers have to come to the building to sacrifice the animals or do crosses. So, the text message MIGHT NOT be incriminating on its own. OTHER circumstantial evidence might lead to the message being incriminating, though!

I watched last night as they discussed this young man as a 'person of interest'. The reporter had made the slip of the tongue error that 'the police have their man'. I'm all for the guilty to get their just desserts...but lets prove they are guilty first for heavens sake....

Dr. Boden on Greta ( I believe it was Greta) stated her found it hard to believe that this murder would have been generated from simply not keeping mouse cages clean. (violent asphyxiation is not a casual death by any stretch) To the good doctor, it didn't seem credible enough a reason to snap into a killing frame of mind. I'm wondering if this young man didn't have a jealousy issues buried deep within him over Ms. Le? I'm sure we will all know the base story soon enough though....

Sad...what a tragic loss of two bright young people...

I can't find a link to it, but I heard it on Helen Glover's show (radio) this morning that Clark used to be a member of some Asian group (although he is not Asian from outward appearances). This group was affiliated with the school, and he dated one of the girls there. Cops were brought to that school because of a rape that had happened involving Clark and this girl. The girl refused to press charges. The girl has a facebook page explaining all this.

I heard this on Glover's show...so I don't know if it is true or if she is simply reading from a facebook page (she didn't give the girl's name out).

I did hear something along that story line last night... (no detail really...just there had been a girl who stated she had trouble with this young man...but no depth on that in the story) ...and something about a face book page explaining the back story between the two of them. Doesn't sound good...but I want to know he is the one who killed her..know what I mean? I want hard evidence that we have the right guy...and some other sick twisted freak isnt' still out there and may hurt another young woman.

On a side note...I remember a year or so back one of the t.v. reporters (no..I don't remember which one much less which channel it was on) had said that normally uneducated people commit these types of crimes. I wounder if statements like that will change in light of this case? As it would appear those with educations do kill as violently as their educated lessors do.

Comforting huh? :eek::rolleyes:

Well, evidence will come out, either to help his case or hurt it.

We all presume he's innocent until proven guilty...lol...but I'm not on the jury, so I can give my opinion.

He had scratches on his arms, chest and back (but he claims it's from his cat).

The DNA matches for biological evidence. Don't know if it is blood or fingernail scrapings. (But he works there).

The swipe key cards show Le and him both being together the last time her swipe card was used. That last swipe of hers put them both together--he used his to leave, she didn't.

The clothes found stuffed in the ceiling tiles were his clothes (with blood on them).

---

Seems hard to figure out a way out of this evidence, so far, if true...

---
As for intellect and crime--Ted Bundy was extremely smart, they said he had a very high IQ. And look what he did...
---

As for doing it for mice? Maybe he was into loving animals, and didn't like Le experimenting on them or something? He could have just let the mice go, if this is why he did it.

Odd. He must have wanted to (maybe) stop her from getting married. She was supposed to get married this past Sunday.

Good point about the fingernails! I knew I read it somewhere...it was your post!

I bet you're right. She scratched him.

What a sad story this is. She was only 90 pounds, and she fought. http://forums.hannity.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Frightening to think about. Seems it was spontaneous. I mean, he didn't remove the body, he left it there hidden.

Of course...we all give our opinion..nothing wrong with it. I just want to make sure he's the guy..and then make sure he pays for his crimes.

DAMN!!! That looks darn bad...I hadn't heard all of that as yet. His cloths is what they found in the tiles..bloody? Wonder how he explained that little gem? I do know the reports have said he has failed a lie detector examine twice now...doesn't look good for him..that's for sure!

Seems hard to figure out a way out of this evidence, so far, if true...

Agreed.....

I think you hit it more on the head...she was marrying...moving on to the next steps of her young adult life...and something about that set him off. :frown:

Sad all the way around....Gads..what is wrong with people anymore? What's happening to rational and reason? Has the 'self' become paramount within our society that we have lost our humanity? Just terrifying and sad....what a shame..what a loss. simply tragic.

What does that mean? In the red?

Whenever you need to kill an animal to observe its tissues or DNA it's termed a "sacrifice."

Whenever you need to breed a new line of mice, it's called a "cross" when you mate two pairs with differing genotypes.

Both are done under federal guidelines in order to reduce suffering of the animals.

Basically, the job requires a stoicism that I wouldn't expect from a die-hard, extremist animal rights activist.
