PITTSBURGH-In their home opener for the 2009 NFL season, the defending Super Bowl champ Steelers marched to a thrilling overtime victory over a Girl Scout Troop from Tennessee.
Utilizing a little-known ground rules in Pittsburgh, the mighty Steelers invoked the rules that require their opposition to wear street shoes for the second half. Further, the Girl Scouts were not authorized any water on their sideline for the remainder of the game.
The Steelers exploited these advantages and scrapped the opposition to a stunning 10-10 tie at the end of regulation.
Using a two-headed coin for the overtime toss, the Steelers were able to successfully advance the ball on the Girl Scouts in street shoes until there was no way their kicker could miss a field goal.
As the ball wobbled through the uprights, giving the Steelers the 13-10 victory, the fans of course serenaded them with cheers while wildly waving their "We're Terrible" crying towels.

The Steelers were EXTREMELY fortunate to win that game at all..
Baronas had an off night ( Although neither botched field goal was really his fault ).
But hey..The Steelers found a way to win..
My hat's off to them.

I watched the packers game, and I think that kicker put it in the hot dog cart
just shanked it
conversely, Dallas' kicker had me nervous and he punched it through from 51 and it had 10 more yards in it when the net caught it
As much as I adore Adam Vinatiere (in a manly, virile sort of way) he defected to the Colts and for this he should be severely chastised.

I think the reason why they don't, Goose, is because Big Ben often comes off as being not careful enough as a QB. He's sacked and hurried quite a bit, and the argument has often been postulated that he'll be in big trouble should the Steelers ever have a less than stellar defense some future season.

What I find funny is Patriot fans who are shocked by those who hate their team. It's as if they take it as a personal offense that someone doesn't 'respect' what the Pats have accomplished. (Many Red Wings fans are the same way.)

The Ravens-Steelers rivalry is literally the only NFL rivalry that still means anything. Did you see the AFC championship last year? It was the most bone-crushing game I've ever seen.

My argument, which you have ignored, is that the Steelers have gone far playing inferior teams. Thusly, they reach the post season by default and relatively fresh.
Play a season in the AFC East, and get tossed around by Miami, NYJ, Buffalo, and NE. Don't even think about an NFC schedule.

Come on Pittsburgh fans.... some of these posters bring up a good point about the division you play in. The Browns and the Bengals have been bad for how long now? The Ravens are your only real challenge in that division, so it's no wonder that the Steelers, who have by far the best organization in the AFC North, either win their division or win a wild card spot each and every year.
My team, in recent years, has the same type of deal going on in the AFC East, except that it's not always the same team giving them the stiffest competition. Last year, they had an 11-5 record and still didn't make the playoffs because Miami came out of nowhere.

and you know why you didnt make it to the playoffs via wild card? because another AFC North team was BETTER! were talking about two teams in our division who USUALLY suck, however if you cant beat the good teams then guess what? you win 4 of 16 games and have a horrible year!

Nope.
You'll need your cute little towels alright.

Um, this "the Steelers can't win the big one" argument is a little bit dated don't you think? We've won two Super Bowls and been to the AFC championship in the last five years.
I mean, just because your team has Tony the Choker Romo, don't take it out on us. I mean, when the Cowboys don't blow a playoff game (and I don't mean lose, I mean blow it themselves) come holler at me.

The Steelers division is so bad it had two teams in the AFC Championship game? Every media outlet had the Steelers schedule as the toughest in the league before last season!
Minus the Dolphins the Steelers played every AFC playoff team at least once! They also played two teams from the NFC playoffs.
They also had games against the Patriots, Cowboys, and Jaguars.
If you say the Steelers had an easy road to the Superbowl, you are naive and basically just a hater.

I can agree with that.
I had a thing for the mom too. Later on, I even dated a girl who looked just like a younger version of Bonnie Franklin.
The only thing I've ever heard about Bonnie Franklin (realize that "One Day at a Time" pre-dates me) was David Spade saying that she's cold in bed..."just lays there".

steelers and bears today creates an ethical dilemma as I hate both teams, and both can't lose.
So, since bears are NFC and not conflictd with the Cowboys...GO BEARS
BEAT STEELERS!!

You are absolutely correct; The Cowboys are unable to accomplish anything by themselves. I am surprised that you are honest enough to admit this.

Speaking of 'One Day at a Time'...
http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/23/mackenzie.phillips.oprah/
Mackenzie Phillips: Dad wanted me to be his wife
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey to air Wednesday, Mackenzie Phillips says that she was raped by her father while still a teenager.
"I woke up that night from a blackout and found myself having sex with my own father," Phillips read aloud from her book, "High on Arrival," during the hour-long interview with Winfrey.
"I came out of that blackout and realized what was happening. ... I slid right back into it and woke up the next morning in my own hotel room and not with him," she continued to read. "Your father is supposed to protect you, not [expletive] you."
John Phillips died in 2001.
Phillips, now 49, said she was 17 or 18 the first time she can remember having sex with her father.
When she confronted him and told him they needed to talk about how he raped her, Phillips said, he responded with confusion.
" 'Raped you? Don't you mean when we made love?' " she told Winfrey. "I thought, wow, I'm really on my own here."
Her intimate relationship with her father, the famed Los Angeles musician and co-founder of the Mamas & Papas, didn't end there, she told Winfrey.
"Over time, in 1980, I'm on the road with my Dad in the New Mamas and Papas, and I begin waking up after drug-fueled events with my pants around my ankles and my father sleeping beside me," Phillips recalled. "It didn't happen every day, it didn't happen every week, but it certainly happened many times. If you're me, you box it away. It's one of those things where you tell yourself don't look. There's a video reel playing in my head, and I've spent 30 years trying not to look."
By the time Phillips turned 29, it had become a consensual relationship, she said, although she was very much aware that it was wrong and shouldn't have been happening. "It was the Stockholm syndrome where you begin to love your captor. I felt love for my father, but the moment he tried to make it a romance, I was shot into the present time."
This epiphany came after the pair toured with the New Mamas and Papas in Hawaii, where Phillips had adjoining rooms with her father. She said she rarely went to her own room during that trip, and one night she found herself in bed next to her father in a drug-induced stupor.
"Dad said, 'We could just run away to Fiji, and we could take [his children] Bijou and Tamerlane and raise them as our own,' " Phillips recounted to Winfrey. "He was delusional, talking about living with me as man and wife, and raising my siblings, his children, as our children. The moment he tried to make it romantic, I thought, we're going to hell for this."
But that wasn't the moment that caused Phillips to end it completely. It wasn't until the mother of one found herself pregnant again and didn't know whether the father of the baby was her then-husband, Shane Fontayne, or her own father.
"I was in a relationship with my son's father as well; he knew nothing," she said. "He's one of the dearest men and one of the best parents to our son. He was always there for me. I came up pregnant, and I had an abortion. And I never let [John Phillips] touch me again."
...
I just have to say, Ewwwwwwwwwww!
I need to go take a shower. There goes my Carol from American Graffiti fantasy.
