No thread about the big game yesterday...?
Good game, if sloppy. Both defenses came to play, and some of the offensive problems with both teams stemmed from that, although they both looked out of sync on their own as well. Barkley didn't exactly light the world on fire, but didn't seem to get rattled either, and was able to direct the winning drive, although the big player seemed to be McKnight.
I don't honestly know if USC will be good enough soon enough to make a run for the NC game, but they are going to be very, very tough the next few years, I think...

FWIW, I'm glad that Michigan beat Notre Dame, although it certainly doesn't mean all that much that they 'beat a ranked team', because Notre Dame never should have been ranked. Now Michigan gets into the rankings because of it, and will soon slide out of them...

USC beat a non conference opponent. Big deal. They still have to make it through the Pac-10 to make it to the "National Championship" game. And this year all but two Pac-10 teams are going to be tough games.

Well, considering that it was the #8 ranked team, I'd say that it was something of a big deal...
While you may not agree with the ranking to begin with, it does mean something; a good start to the season. It was also big in two other ways: it keeps alive their hopes for the NC game (although, even as a USC fan, I'm not sure that they are really ready for it), and it gives Barkley a huge boost to know tht he can win big games, on the road, solidifying the team's confidence in him.
The PAC 10 may not have the high-ranked teams that the SEC will, but they will be tough (ask Tennessee). Cal, UCLA, OSU, and Oregon will all do some damage this year...

I'd question the validity of that ranking, especially in light of Navy's near win against the team from the snakepit. Navy's not exactly a powerhouse football team.
And I'd say that, while I give a begrudged nod to the OSU defense, the USC offense by itself just didn't look as impressive as it has before.

USC found a way to win, and that's what makes them a great team. They may not be as strong as in years past, but they are still going to be in the hunt come December. Looking forward to another great year for the Trojans. Fight on!

Don't be surprised if ASU and UA are in the mix as well. If the Wildcats defense holds strong and offence improves; come Dec. 5th USC could end up getting slaughtered by the UofA.

The Mildcats could give them a good game; it would be an upset of fairly large proportion if they could actually win the game... Slaughter? :))

More important was watching the OSU girls cry in the stands after the game. Awesome!

USC with a freshman quaterback did what they had to do to win the game, that's about all anyone can ask in the situation

I did say "could end up". The big thing that needs to happen is for the Wildcats offense to get its passing game going. When that happens look out PAC-10.
