View Full Version : Democrats Heckled Bush During 2005 State of the Union Address

Throughout the 53-minute speech, many of the president's points were met with loud applause and standing ovations.

But the first half of Mr Bush's speech focused on domestic policy - and this is where he received loud heckles from some members of Congress.

He spoke in detail about his plans for younger workers to divert some of their taxes into personal investment accounts to ensure they receive a pension when they retire.

Responding to Mr Bush's speech, Senate minority leader Harry Reid said the plan for social security was "dangerous" because it would add to national debt.

"That's an immoral burden to place on the backs of the next generation," he added. I guess it's okay for Democrats to heckle the President, but not Republicans.

Side note: I didn't snip out Reid's comments on Bush raising the debt because its funny as hell and does a fine job of showcasing the *******'s hypocricy.

Thats good. You and MKH are consistent. Its just that, in the next few days, we're going to be seeing the media go on and on about how someone heckling the President is unheard of and disrespectful. I have to point out that both sides do it for the sake of balance.

Republicans, if they ever found their collective nut sacks, should ignore the inevitable onslaught of nutrootery that is sure to come following the bravery of Joe Wilson.

Instead, you should flip the script on these hippiecrites, play dumb like they do, be facetious, use subterfuge, and then get all uppity and emotionally exclaim to all of their manufactured rage with a simple response: "What are you talking about? Why are you getting upset about a 4 year old speech?" Then slam them over the head with the facts of their partys leaders past behavior all the while meeting all of their faux and manufactured outrage with the same line as they would. This is very similar to how they operate, don't worry though, it shouldn't turn you into a lib.

Yeah, I think he can expect a "visit" from O's "blue shirts" sometime
in the near future.

Be prepared for a page 5 story about an "unidentified man run over by truck"
followed by an I.D. on page 10 4 days later stating it was Joe Wilson.

Just a few thoughts:

How come the Whitehouse can't be transparent about it's health care plan? You know, the specifics?

They are rationing health care reform meetings. Why would they not ration health care?

H.ussein O.bama couldn't even resolve the controversy around his Senate seat. Why would he be able to do any better with Obamacare or the Nation for that matter?

Some showy, partisan hooting and harumphing and scowling and even booing en masse seems fine to me--whether directed at a Democrat or Republican. It seems part of a recognizable tradition; the President--like the PM in the UK--ain't no king and there's an element of theater to these events.

But if a solitary Democratic official yelled out loudly and distinctly, "You lie!" at a President during such an address in similar circumstances, it would be worthy of notice, for sure. It seems different to me--in a way similar to the way that calling fellow posters around here "liars" is frowned upon, if not taboo. In any case, Wilson's attempted non-point was not worth the incivility or personal hostility. But I don't like the way he backed off it, either.

Frankly its AWESOME that the left is now obsessing over the Joe Wilson comment. Its deflects from their own intention to bolster support for socialized health care & further serves to alienate independents from the spiteful factions of the Left.

I think it was a put up job. All of his Republican friends told him they were going to do it too, and didn't to make him look like a jerk. You know, like when everyone tells you the party you're going to is a costume party, but nobody else is wearing one when you get there--so you're stuck dressed as Grimus from the McDonalds gang, and everyone else is business casual.

MANY MANY seconds later the camera pans over to Queen Hillary as she has a Sarcastic Smile on her face and rolls her eyes! I wonder what kind of emotions she was showing in those seconds before the camera finally makes it to her! She is pathetic!"
