I've noticed that a few people on these boards actually watch anime, which caught me by surprise, I wasn't expecting there to be many fans of anime on these forums.

So what are you guys currently watching? Any recommendations, favorites?

Right now I am watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Michiko to Hatchin

My favorites are Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Baccano!. Those three are some of the best shows I have ever seen.

Recommendations:
The works of Hayao Miyazaki (although I have only seen a few of his movies)
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Baccano!
The Ghost in the Shell movies
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Once I finish watching Michiko to Hatchin, I'll probably watch Ghost in the Shell: SAC next. I enjoyed the movies, so the series should be good as well. That or Neon Genesis Evangelion or Escaflowne, haven't really decided which yet. I've heard they are all good.

I have watched Ranma 1/2, Uresei Yatsura, Tenchi Muyo and a handful of others. Haven't watched anything new in quite a while, so not up on any of the new series.

I've got a good number of Myazaki's movies. I'm currently catching up on the Slayers series. I just finished watching "Paprika" which is a wonderfully weird movie. I would recommend "Anzu Manga Dio", "Negima!", "Lain", and "Elfin Lied."

I made a big mistake with "Neon Genesis Evangelion" though. I bought the first five volumes of the platinum series and then bought "End of Evangelion." I hated the way they producers put an end to the series so much I can not watch "Evangelion" anymore. In fact, from what I've found out when "End of Evangelion" was released in Japan; the fans nearly lynched the production team. This may be why they are releasing "Neon Genesis Evangelion 101" as a way to redeem themselves.

I bought the entire set of Eva before having watched based on the reviews. I think I watched them over the course of one weekend. How disappointing was it to become engrossed in the series and then watch the final two episodes. I did enjoy End of Evangelion though.

I started Eva because some friends suggested it. I loved it until I watched "End of Evangelion," now I can't even got back and watch the episodes I have nor can I bring myself to watch the rest of the original episodes.

"Graveyard of Fireflies" is so sad and depressing I can't watch more than 30 minutes of it without crying my eyes out. I still haven't finished watching it. Its just too much for me to deal with.

That was the first anime I ever saw (unless you count The Last Unicorn). I rented it for my friends Sr. year anime night. That was the first one we watched. We took a break after that one and watched RObin Hood men in Tights, then went back to watching anime. We made it all the way through "KoR: A Summer's Beginning" and by 3am we tried to watch "Wicked City" but it was the subtitled version, and none of us felt liek watching subtitles at 3am.

And Grave is actually one of my favorites of all time. It's depressing, but it lets you see an event from an entirely different point of view, and it's also a real testament to the horrors of war, and the people that often ultimately suffer for the choices of adults.

I didn't get "Graveyard of Fireflies" until it came out on DVD. Another film based on that era is "Barefoot Gen." Its not as depressing as Grave is.

I was lucky enough to catch "Wicked City" at the local theater.

I've recently collected the three anime that Harmony Gold used to make Robotech. Separate and taken on their own merit they are far superior to Robotech.

Uh, off the top of my head.... I saw/read parts of some of these and liked them for w/e reason:

Naruto
Case Closed
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell
s-CRY-ed
Fullmetal Alchemist
Death Note
Lupin the 3rd

And - LOL - I was a big fan of Dragon Ball and the rest of that years ago. Still appeals to me. :|

Actually, this makes me want to look for them on the Net... especially Case Closed.

Have you seen that "Big O" series Cartoon Network sometimes shows? I think the design of the show is excellent. Episodes are available here (http://www.youtube.com/user/elkano788), if you haven't seen this at all.

If you saw the whole thing, I actually have a commentary on the series: On the final episode of "Big O" (anime) (http://www.ashokkarra.com/2008/11/in-defense-of-the-big-o-finale-anime/)

I'm still waiting on a 3rd vampire hunter D movie. I like them both but hope they go back to the darker tone of the first one.

Problem is when CN gets a hold of a lot of anime they cut out things, so you aren't really getting the whole anime, or they cut it for commercials in REALLY stupid places so it breaks up the episode poorly.

It is not just Cartoon Network. It is also the American distributor/dubber. Many dubs are dubbed as adaptions instead of being true to the original. In some cases, Project A-Ko, Ranma 1/2, it can change the overall meaning of a scene considerably.

Which is why, on the rare occasion that I indulge anymore, I only watched subtitled episodes.

I used to be into it. My favorite was Full Moon wo Saga****e, but that is pretty girly. I haven't been into anime though for like around 3 years now. I'm more into the live action dramas. Now if you want a recommendation for those, I got plenty, which by the way are where I get most my avatars from (not this one, this is some chick cosplaying). :)

If you buy your anime as OVA or movies its usually not cut or touched up. If its to be shown or has been shown on American TV most likely its been cut and touched up to death.

I much prefer subtitled because the vocal flow is much better no matter how good a job the people who translated and dubbed the show did. Its the main reason I've been attempting to learn Japanese culture and language.

I only by DVDs that have both. I've found that often times the differences are very subtle, which is a good way to tell if you've gotten a quaility dub. My bf also speaks Japanese so he can usually tell when something is off.

I really enjoyed teh dragonlance books. But I read a bunch of reviews for that dragonlance cartoon/movie and they all said it was horrible. So I never watched it.

You're probably right: in the case of "Big O," I did watch the series on dvd separate from Cartoon Network. I brought up CN just in case someone might have remembered seeing the series there.
