Conspiracy Theorist Convinces Neil Armstrong Moon Landing Was Faked (http://www.theonion.com/content/news/conspiracy_theorist_convinces_neil)
LEBANON, OHIO—Apollo 11 mission commander and famed astronaut Neil Armstrong shocked reporters at a press conference Monday, announcing he had been convinced that his historic first step on the moon was part of an elaborate hoax orchestrated by the United States government.

BTW, this is from The Onion. :))

Two Bangladeshi newspapers have apologised after publishing an article taken from a satirical US website which claimed the Moon landings were faked.
The Daily Manab Zamin said US astronaut Neil Armstrong had shocked a news conference by saying he now knew it had been an "elaborate hoax".
Neither they nor the New Nation, which later picked up the story, realised the Onion was not a genuine news site.
Both have now apologised to their readers for not checking the story.
"We thought it was true so we printed it without checking," associate editor Hasanuzzuman Khan told the AFP news agency.
"We didn't know the Onion was not a real news site."

LOL....I'm sure there were a few. :lol::lol:

Sad part is...there are people out there who really want that story to be real. Want it so bad they can taste it. Why would anyone really want a Moon Landing to not be true? To convince yourself it's all an elaborate hoax. You've gotta have a real bad taste in your mouth to even think it's validating somehow that the govt. is out to get you. Sad is what this is...just sad.

For me, the saddest part is that these people can't seem to believe this country had the will and the talent to land on the Moon. We did.

Heck..it would almost be easier to admit too said boogeyman...find said Boogeyman...beat the living hell outta him..and go back to living life...but I think that may be too simple a solution for these nut jobs. Pelosie would want to give him shelter, aide, a car, a business..and then tax the living you know what outta him. Maybe it's better the boogeyman stay under the bed in our closets? lol

Exactly!

What do these tin foil hat wearing conspiracy nuts do to explain the continued space program? We have live feed from the space shuttle crews that go up to the international space station. Guess that's all filmed on some huge sound stage in New Mexico too?

I guess we invented microwaves, sun glasses, protective fire gear, (most of the products we use in the modern world today) by not doing our homework and sending our people out into space? Gee...which is it...inventive talented very smart people in our space program/Nasa..or just some huge cover up to make our little ego's feel better in a ****ing match against Russia...China...whoever we are supposedly competing with now? Come on...to far fetched for even the tightest twist on a tin foil hat wearer imo.

Hate America kooks... transmitting from Uranus.

Hard to believe it's been 40 years... the rest of the world still can't catch us after all this time.

No kooks, we are proud of our Apollo 11 heros... nothing you say or do will take their place the history of this planet and nation away.

I can't wait to see their explanations for the LROC pictures that Lou's been helping us to see.
That thread's been pretty devoid of the HB crowd as the pictures have gotten better and we can now see the astronauts' tracks in the lunar soil.

Oops, I mean, these photoshopped pictures. :)

The space program is a joke and NASA is the biggest joke ever. The space shuttle is just a U haul truck that goes outside earth orbit (Just). We landed on the moon 30 years ago and we are still dicking around in near earth orbit.

We need to open up space travel to the private sector. Lets be honest if some organization announced a mission to Mars and it was a one way trip you would still get thousands of suitable candidates.

Space travel is open to the private sector. It's just very expensive.
Unmanned space traffic has been open to the private sector, and has flourished, for decades.

You might get thousands of insane people to sign up for one way travel to Mars, but no sane person.

You are right, though. The shuttle is a U-haul. That's what it was sold as and has delivered. The cost, though, was grossly underestimated. My dad was deeply involved in the Space Shuttle proprosals and has interesting information about how over-sold the cost of the Space Shuttle. In essence, it was sold as being possible for something like $700/lb; it's turned out to be more like $100,000/pound.
I may have the numbers off, but the relative difference is still valid.
The point being, manned space travel is very very expensive.
ETA: As much as I've been proud of NASA's manned missions, I am not currently a proponent of mannel travel to Mars, at least on the taxpayer's bill. The recent Mars rovers have demonstrated the value of robotic missions. Those pictures, and data, returned are about as good as what a manned mission could accomplish, for a tiny fraction of the cost. Better a hundred or more robotic missions all over Mars than one manned mission.

One of the interesting private sector companies is SpaceX founded by Elon Musk one of the co-founders of Pay-Pal. Below is a link to their upcoming launch manifest.

Elon Musk also the chairman of the company that makes the Tesla electric car.

Yet NASA routinely undercuts private investors who want to launch satellites etc. NASA at the moment has a monopoly on the space industry which is wrong.

Anyone who thinks that our space program is a success are deluding themselves.

We make it prohibitevly expensive because we are obsessed with safety and ensuring every I is dotted and every T is crossed. Do you really think that is how we did in the 50s and 60s? Of course not, everyone involved knew of the huge risks involved but were willing to take them because that is part of human nature.

BTW I disagree about only insane people volunteering. I guarantee you would get very sane and very qualified people volunteering for such a manned mission.

No doubt! It's no more dangerous than the early days of oceanic exploration. Human nature is to push the boundaries.

I like the idea of Private Sector Space Exploration...don't have issue one with it. Nasa is what we're stuck with now however...and so I support it until another venture is available to support. To have those who say we never landed on the Moon...or have done little since is just nuts. Mars module/rovers in and of themselves is impressive. As is Hubble and the International Space Station.

If memory serves....the Virgin Records guy...sorry..can't remember his name..building/throwing money into the first private sector space flight for public passengers. That's something. Small..but something. The price tag per person for a flight into outer orbit and back...whoa nelly...expensive to say the least. Last I read the flight is already booked. So no shortage of pioneer spirit for space explorations.

Richard Branson

Yes... the reason private sector space flight is slow to develop has nothing to do with NASA having a monopoly. They don't. It is entirely an issue of financing... it is extraordinarily expensive even at the cut rate level that Rutan and Branson are approaching it; only governments of fairly wealthy nations have the ability to garner the kind of resources that a full scale program demands.

Yes! Thank You! Man..can never remember that guys name for some reason.

I agree...few private sectors are willing much less able to afford the type of proposition of outgo in monies to set up, much less long term money to keep it sustainable within a space program.

Although Bill Gates...now that I think on it...just may have what it takes both financially and software wise to make a good run at it. But what would be the benefit for him/to him when our tax dollars do most of the work/heavy lifting? Private sectors like to make money...not discovery's for the sake of discovery's.
