Good win for Boise. LeGarrette Blount should be suspended for the season for Oregon. Emotions run high and little incidents during the game will happen, but a sucker punch after the game when they should be shaking hands is not excusable in college sports. If Blount isnt suspended he is one player I wont feel bad about if he suffers a major injury (such ACL tear or something, nothing life altering).

Great win for the Broncos!!! Oregon is a good team and will for sure have a good season, They still have a shot to win the Pac-10. Yup I'm a homer for Boise State, but I'm still rational enough to know they've got a long way to go before competing with the big boys consistently. As long as they keep moving forward every year that's all you can ask for. Still many games left in this season before any thoughts of busting the BCS again, but it gives them something to shoot for. 65-2 at home since 1999, not too shabby.
Blunt should be suspended but I don't wish injury on any players. I think he had to be embarrased about not being able to back up his earlier comments of the Ducks owing Boise State an A**-whooping after last years game. I don't think the Ducks have any excuses this time, they had their starting QB, they can't complain about alleged cheap shots. Probably be something about the blue turf, it's about all they got this time.
Apparantly the myth is true, Ducks crash on the Blue!!!! Go Broncos

I dont wish broken necks or anything on players, but an ******* like that should either be suspended and have his scholarship revoked, or tear his ACL. That is pathetic. Being a little dirty during the course of the game is one thing and it happens every single game. Laying out an opposing player and having security and your coaches hold you back from going in the stands is a different thing. If I were the coach of Oregon that would be his last game in that uniform.

I can't imagine that he isn't suspended, probably for quite awhile. I agree with you about there is always dirty play during a game, I never wanted to be on the bottom of a pile lol, but I did enjoy diving into one. I think he's gonna be facing discipline from possibly the NCAA, definately the Pac-10, definately the University and none of those will even come close to the wrath of his coach. Nationally televised game, the 1st game as Head Coach, he'll be lucky if all he gets is suspended.

It wouldnt surprise me if his Oregon career is over. Not sure if he is a SR, but if not he should probably look for a transfer.

I was going to post this.
LaGarrette Blount looked positively psychotic. Keep in mind that he was suspended in the spring.
It looked like the Boise State player he decked was trash-talking. I'd like to know what he was saying.

I think Blount gets suspended for two games...the Boise State player did seem to be jawing at him right before it. I'm not condoning Blount's actions here...but let's add context to the incident.

Context:
As the Broncos began celebrating on their famous blue turf, Hout yelled in Blount's face and tapped him on the shoulder pad. That drew an immediate scream from Boise State head coach Chris Petersen, but before Petersen could pull Hout away, Blount landed a right hand to the defensive end's jaw.

after what blount was saying earlier this week, he had to expect some comments pointing out how the ducks got their asses handed to them. there is precious little the BSU player could have said that needs to be added for any context.
walk away - leave the field. blount proved he has no control during that entire tirade that extended to his own team and, as would be expected, home team fans more than willing to heckle him.
and heckling is what blount more than deserved - he set up the entire situation first with his comments before the game.
a good coach would revoke his scholarship and send him packing, especially considering the previous incidents this spring which already put blounts situation as a player in jeopardy.

I saw the incident last night at the end of the game, and then listened to the Dan Patrick radio program this morning on my way to work. Blount was simply walking off the field, not looking for a fight, when the Boise player initiated the physical contact by slapping him pretty hard on the shoulder to get his attention. A little background... Blount had made a comment that "we owe them an ass kicking for what happened last year" and it was used as bulletin board material by the Boise coach. After the game, the Boise player went up to Blount, smacked him on the shoulder pad, and said "now I guess you guys owe us two ass whippings". You all saw what happened next. I think a suspension is in order, but I don't think he should be kicked off the team. I also think that some disciplinary action should be taken against the Boise player who began the whole thing in the first place.

if that's what hout said, i couldn't disagree more. that is part of the game. blount set himself up with his earlier comments and there was nothing inappropriate about hout's comments. at best, the slap on the shoulder pads was his only error - and even then that's an acceptable way to gain a players attention.
blount should have continued walking off the field.
had blount only thrown the punch, i'd be likely to view a suspension as enough - that he engaged his own team, couldn't walk past the fans and needed local security and his own coaches to restrain him and keep him from going into the crowd - that's what shows him to be the classless punk his sucker punch indicated he is.
he's a thug and deserves to be treated as such.

That is a pretty weak provocation, especially when Blount ran his mouth before the game. Secondly, the one punch isnt the whole ordeal. He also punched a team mate trying to hold him back and also tried to go into the stands. He had also been suspended from his team from some practices during the offseason. The guy is out of control and IMO should be done with Oregon.

Seems like it's assault to me. This was post game. Lucky he's not getting charged. And then to have to be restrained from fighting with fans on the way out. Here's the x factor, Blount can play. Personally, I'd like to see him kicked off the team, but I'd guess 2 or 3 game suspension and public apology.

September 4th, 2009, 1:28 pm
Blount had behavioral problems that caused him to miss some practice in the preseason, so I wouldn't call it an isolated incident.
However, I think he should be suspended indefinitely (for a couple of games, at least) until he can prove he's not going to go off like that again.
A season-long suspension is too much. He shouldn't get punished simply becuase the punch he threw was more photogenic than most. Many punches get thrown that don't connect, and I don't think those are any less severe.
This guy was a top-10 running back in the nation last year. Call me cynical, but I think he's back before conference play starts, if he does get suspended.

I also heard on the radio today, local talk show here in Boise, that Blount told his coach Chip Kelly, that he did not even hear what Hout had said.
Bottom line for me:
1- Hout should not have said anything to Blount, that goes for
everyone on Boise State's team. Act like ya been there.
2- Blount has had anger issues before, I think he was looking for
an excuse to deck someone. He probably WOULD have
gotten just a few games if it would have ended with the
punch, but he just completely lost it after he was being
restrained, that's what cost him the year.
3- If all Hout said was indeed "now I guess you guys owe us two
ass whippings" , then to me that's not enough to punch
someone. Worse stuff than that gets said in every pile.

Blount was suspended because he's a freakin' idiot. Not only did he run his suck before the game, putting out bulletin board material, he and his team then had their asses handed to them on national television. When a player from the opposing team reminded him of what came out of his stupid mouth, he flipped out and attacked him. If he had been able to just keep it to that, he may have been able to play again this year, but nnnooooooo.... he then had to be physically restrained from going after a fan, and apparently also hit a coach.
He is a talented idiot who has been given the opportunity to get an education so that when his pro career is over he might not be unemployable. His pro career may be short or long, but he has done nothing to show that he is anything but a idiot.
If you can't take trash, don't talk it.
Better yet, have a little smidgen of class, and let your play speak for you...

If that's the case, then it's a little more leniency on his part, but still, nothing needed to be said. I'm not justifying Blount; not by a longshot. He decked a guy and overreacted. Suspend him for a few or all games. But if you say something stupid to another player, don't expect him to react with smiles and laughs.

Bull.
I've watched that video; he had his fingers extended when it happened. How freakin' hard can you hit with outstretched (towards the target) fingers?
Blount is an ass, and over-reacted to hearing the same type of (earned) trash being talked to him that he spewed earlier. Plus, he had to go to Hout to hit him, as Hout had said his piece and turned away...

Hout did more than talk trash. He did instigate physical contact to Blount, the video is plain as day and it is clear that Hout instigated the contact. Again, it certainly didnt deserve the response, but you cant just write it off as Hout was talking trash, when he clearly was the guy who instigated contact.
