Casevile Michigan right on Saginaw Bay. Beautiful sandy beaches.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had any idea when global warming was going to come back. I'd hate to be sitting on the sand wearing a parka again.

We went back up to Michigan for a family reunion a few weeks ago. It was downright cool in central Michigan.

I just literally just now turned my heat on IN AUGUST IN ST LOUIS. This is unheard of at this time of year.
I'm not kidding. Right now, our low tonight should be around oh, say 78. Daily heat indexes of 'you've got to be kidding if you think that I'm leaving my home's A/C"....Normal is high 90's with indexes anywhere from 103 to 113. Our high today was about 65!
Low tonight forecast to be 49.
Weirdest summer here in the five I've spent thus far. Just plain strange. I'm sending my kids to school tomorrow with a coat. I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole.

Who takes a vacation and goes to the beach?
I see the beach every day and it’s nothing but sand, sunshine, ocean, seagulls, near naked women, pelicans, and fresh air.
God, how I miss the snow.

I live near Detroit. The only thing in that list I ever see is seagulls. And they just crap all over everything.

Well…perhaps we can make some kind of a deal.
I’ll trade you 2 weeks free rent in Florida (off season) for 6 city blocks in Detroit.

Wouldn't be as fun zipping my ATV through the beach sand if I didn't hear the crunch of plover eggs as their nests fly up in a cloud of dust all around me.

Five days of heat in Long Beach, CA mostly overcast all summer, beginning to get cool again.
Odd weather this summer for here.

Stop, Al, stop!!!!
AlGore needs to stop his war against Global Warming Now! He won! He should withdraw!
Just like Desert Storm when we stopped short of taking out Saddam. But Al went too far and is causing it to be too cool now.
He needs to start giving away all those carbon credits so the earth will warm up.

Hot in Texas though. Only got up to 87 today so we're having a cool spell too.

If it came down to being a street bum, a hobo, or a beach bum...
I'd choose beach bum.
a beach bum can get food, simply by making a fishing pole just from crap you normally find on the beach
and palm fronds make a decent hut, if you use vines and branches
and you can always get stuff that washes up on the beach.
Now a street bum has to hold a sign, and pester people at freeway exits- and faces trouble with the police and possibly with rowdy gangs.
and a hobo has to worry about being thrown off the train in just about anywhere, in any type of season.
Plus trains are noisy, smelly, and dirty.
A beach in Fla is the place to be on 'permanent vacation'.
I bet some CEO's under pressure dream of taking a year and being a beach bum.
Of course, they are probably thinking Brazil, or the Caymans and having a nice cash account that the IRS knows nothing about...

God, how I miss the snow.that depends. I'm going to the vicinity of Nome Alaska next July. going to set up a beach box sluice and dig gold out of the sand for at least one week. hopefully two. kind of hoping for a stormy winter up there to concentrate the gold a bit. temps should be 50 at night and 70 by day and rainy.

Great fall weather.
The cold winds off of icy Lake Huron will make lovely beach weather at 65 degrees.

I hope you are not mortgaging the house to grubsteak your expedition... :neutral:first week is about 2600 dollars due to plane fares and stuff but the second week would only be 900 dollars. the beach miners get an average of 1 ounce a day but if they are on the ball it runs from 3 ounces to rare storm finds of up to 13 ounces. that means my first week should pay for the trip a little over half way through if i dont get distracted by the salmon, char, grayling, trout, and so forth or go inland for a chance at some nuggets and blueberries and a bear or moose attack.

i don't want to spend more than two or three days inland if that. the beach is the steadiest gold out there that does not require skill or luck to find. any Cheechako can get gold on the beach.
Cheechako - A person on their first trip to Alaska, or the Yukon. Or a person who is in Alaska, or
the Yukon, for less than a year. Primarily used as a word meaning
novice or "green-horn."

Speaking of Global Warming - or not - as the case may be...
Farmer's Almanac is predicting a frigid winter !!!

At least for the MidWest anyway.
Doesn't look too bad for the eastern seaboard.

Yes... something like that... but with "and too stupid to know better" tacked on the end. :D
The term Cheechako is pretty much out of style these days, but while you are down there on the beach sorting through sand, don't be too surprised if some local Eskimo calls you a "silly gussik." ;)

Nothing wrong with bear or deer poop if you are starving. Parasites can be gotten rid of once you get home; death is kind of permanent.
Seriously... the high Arctic Eskimos used the frozen still loaded intestines of seals as trail food. They would cut it into lengths, freeze them and gnaw on it when they got hungry. Very nutritious. Sort of how the interior native use smoke dried fish. I have no knowledge of whether they acquired parasites from doing that, (I know you can get trichinosis from under cooked walrus meat) but in the high Arctic, they did not have a lot of other choices. Everything that didn't kill them was food.
How did we get here from "going to the beach"?

Maybe that explains why Eskimos rub noses instead of kiss. I bet their breath would knock a buzzard off a manure spreader at 20 paces!

You should try Hawaii someday, Iggy, if you've never been.
They've got just about every type of beach possible at a wide range of temperatures. They've also got pretty much every climate available on the planet.
