The city of Orlando (run by democrats) continue to run the city folk into the ground. The latest gaff is this.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The future looks very uncertain for a fountain that has become the symbol of Orlando. The fountain at Lake Eola hasn't worked since it was hit by lighting last week.

The city has a $1 million insurance policy, but it has a $500,000 deductible. The city doesn't have the money to pay it, so they want citizens to help pay for the deductible.

Who was the brain child to buy THIS insurance coverage? Is it even needed to fix such a common problem here in Florida (i.e. lighting strike repairs). Something appears fishyyyyyyyy.........*cough*scam*cough*

Hmmmmm....1 Million dollar policy with a equal half in deductible? I'm thinking it's time to go shopping for a new insurance company!

I'd be cheaper to have a private company come out, diagnose what's wrong with said fountain...(like hitting the reset switch on the damn breaker/circuit board)...and pay out the thousand or so dollars it would cost do have the work contracted out and done by a private firm/company.

But hey...that's most likely to much common sense to expect from a city right?

Its probably just a $20.00 fuse and maybe replace some electrical wires. Less than 1k..... but the city seems to think it requires an insurance claim. I guess that new NBA stadium they are building took away all their "petty cash" lol

I have to agree...hubby and I both think this a pure cash grab by the city...nice little fundraiser with a totally false subject to use...ie water fountain. Granted, it depends on the size of the water pumps used in the fountain itself...but most likely the most expensive it would be to replace pumps and electrical is under 5 grand. Something is sooo very wrong with the numbers the city is putting forth. Wonder if anyone will actually follow up on it?

Someone should look into their insurance policy as well...I mean...who in the heck buys a insurance policy were half the insurance policy itself is the deductible? No wonder so many states are on the verge of bankruptcy! Geeeesh!

If the city is broke maybe they should settle for a kid with a squirt gun instead of some fancy million dollar fountain.

UPDATE: The city has only received approx $800.00 so far in donations.

Can you believe this? The mayor and his staff all make close to $100k for salaries, yet how many of these city leaders who represent Orlando gave a dime? How about the pro athletes who play for the Orlando Magic? Seems all the wealthy folks who depend on Orlando are absent. The small mom and pops who live nearby give up $20 - $50 of their income towards donations while these "high on the hog" leaders/sport figures look the other way.

Not to mention the larger point - Orlando should be one of the wealthiest cities in the nation. They should literally be swimming in tax revenue from tourism.

What seems to be the problem?
