You really need to see this video. She's 89 and has owned her "chariot" since it came off the assembly line in 1965. She now has over 550,000 miles on it.
Watch the whole thing as she shows why she's not afraid to drive across country alone towards the end. Quite the surprise! I just love this lady!

WOW! Who woulda thunk a Mercury Comet would last 20 years let alone 45.
And did you notice how clean that car was under the hood? And not a dent in her. Fantastic. The only thing wrong with that car is that it is still a Mercury Comet. ;)
She obviously has proven to this throw-away society that Click & Clack are right.

Only 550k miles? I've heard of cars that have gotten over a million.
Hehe... but good on her.

That's one good way to shut those extended warranty hucksters down.

I have an 83 Volvo (original owner)... I have had 4 or 5 Midas mufflers on the house. They hate people like me. ;)

OMG, I love her!
I learned to drive from my sister in a car like that. An ancient grey Comet.
It was the ultimate 'first car'. Looked like heck, had a terrible paint job. My sister drove it for a couple of years. Sold it and it didn't have a problem. I've wondered from time to time over the years whatever became of it, and how long it continued to go.
Cars were simpler back then. They were also far less expensive and complicated to repair. There is something to be said about that.
She reminds me of my mother. Woman has the receipts of everything from her life, organized in binders and files. She can pull out the warranty from a 10 year old curling iron that has the receipt hand dated and stapled to the inside cover. She has tax returns from the 50's. If you ask her for anything, she can go to a file and whip it out. It's a little intimidating. LOL
Women like that should run the world.
