View Full Version : There appears to be some question of Lockerbie bomber's disease

From the Scotsman: http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/latestnews/Ordinary-prison-GP--not.5592149.jp
THE crucial medical advice that concluded the Lockerbie bomber had less than three months to live was given by a prison doctor and not a cancer specialist, The Scotsman can reveal.
Medical evidence
Justice secretary Kenny MacAskill said the prognosis that Megrahi had just three months to live was based on a range of views and specialists.
Yet the summary by prison service chief medical officer Andrew Fraser said that specialists were unwilling to state this and it appears only one non-specialist doctor supported this view.
It also noted that clinicians commented on Megrahi's "relative lack of symptoms" from his prostate cancer.

Not to support or deny the medical evidence here...but...thing is...Doctors simply don't know what, when or how the next acceleration of a disease is going to explode...especially cancer. They don't know how long any given treatment will keep said cancer in remission. Everyone is different and unique. What treatment that works for one patient, may not necessarily work well within another. It's all best guess folks.
Prostrate cancer...when caught in it's earliest stages, can be highly curable; just as early detection of breast cancer can be. That doesn't mean however, that eventually through time and aging, that cancer won't be the very thing that ends the person's life. In this case, I believe they released the prisoner during a state of remission...with back up statements to assert that 'cancer' will be the end of him.
The rub: Something is going to 'end' all of us at one point in time or another. We are born to the grave so to speak. Towards the end, you certainly don't have the strength to endure a 'Hero's' welcome home; endure a long flight..and look as well as this man did. If he only has 3 months or so to live...then we should be able to see a man who is in a very different physical state. I've yet to see pictures of this man in a state that would lead me to believe he only has 3 months to live due to prostrate cancer.
Who knows? Maybe a bus will run him down in the street...Maybe a car wreck will take his life? Maybe he'll choke on some humus? Who knows? But end of life due to cancer..I'm not seeing it...yet.

I have a friend whose prostrate cancer metastasized more than 5 years ago. He was given no more than 6 months to live. I chatted with him at a coffee shop just a couple of weeks ago.

This morning it just broke that the release was part of an oil/energy deal the Brits were involved in in some way.
Talk about "no blood for oil." I wonder if this and the deteriorating situation in England will be enough to break the back of Labor this go around.

Smoke and mirrors that no longer hide the truth...Trade one terrorist and will let you drill and explore our country for oil. Hmmmmm...this has a very familiar ring to it. Go figure..taking political interest over justice....seems our old friends the Brits have learned a trick or two from us haven't they?
Hope the get holy heck from the opinions of their population as well as the world.
I did find interesting that this Meghari fellow is to be taking into custody in Libya and spend his time in a Libya prison. Since when do prisoners of any flavor receive a hero's welcome...receive a fine home and staff..and become a national poster boy for old Kaddaffee Duck? Odd...odd indeed.

Even if ths dirtbg sucumbs to his "cancer", this is really a victory for Muhammadamism. Libya and her friends are joyous and using the moment to expose themselves to the western Crusades.

The Times of London gained access last night to the dress rehearsal of a spectacular two-hour show which extols Colonel Qaddafi for reviving his country and restoring Arab pride. As the finale approaches, the screen at the back of the giant stage in Tripoli’s Green Square shows Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi stepping off the plane which brought him home from his Scottish prison two weeks ago. His arms are raised aloft by Colonel Qaddafi’s son, Saif, as he acknowledges the joyful reception from the crowd below.
Unless it is cut out at the last minute, the clip’s inclusion seems almost calculated to provoke the West. Britain and America had urged Libya to keep al-Megrahi’s homecoming low key, and President Obama and Gordon Brown both expressed disgust when he was given what appeared to be a rapturous welcome at Tripoli airport. It also flies in the face of repeated assurances by Libyan officials, including Saif Qaddafi, that the reception was muted and not intended as a display of gloating. Al-Megrahi himself is now in hospital, seriously ill with prostate cancer.
Anxious to dampen down the controversy caused by al-Megrahi’s release, Britain is expected to send only a junior representative to today’s ceremonies. The British Embassy in Tripoli said that Sir Vincent Fean, the ambassador, was in Malta, suggesting the job will be left to a more junior diplomat. "We are still considering the level of representation," a spokesman said.
Other European states are sending ministers, ambassadors or official delegations, but the President of Malta is thought to be the only European head of state attending. However the audience will include a large number of African leaders and Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez.

During the Bush presidency the fact that Libya had "renounced"terrorism was lauded on this forum as a victory for the President. How come now Libya is once again public enemy number 1?

Missing a bit of meat in the middle of that thought Hereintheusa..don't ya think?
When Kaddaffe Duck "caved" in and made those statement to keep the USA out of his country...many saw it as Libya unable to fight anymore against an every growing population who no longer would tolerate little dictators as their power structure and a world who would back the populace..not the dictator. That's not lauding...that fact.
Kaddaffee understood he was loosing his power grip on his populace...Kaddaffee gave up the ghost..and then sat silent for the better part of the last several years. They've (Libya) yet to be pulled off the list of terrorist nations/nations who support terrorism; they've yet to meet the requirements of a nation who will sit in on talks or a place at the UN table. (first time in a very long time Kaddaffe duck would even think of coming to UN talks). So far..all we have is one silly set of talks that state Kaddaffe didn't want the US to come into his country and dethrone him as Saddam was. He's yet to produce much more then that...song and dance routine that all men in his position do...just enough to keep us at the front porch..but never in through the door.
Allowing a homecoming for a known terrorist...slaps those in the face that he was kissing just a year before. Not very smart if you ask me.
But...then again...it's not Bush's face he's kissing anymore is it? We now have Obama...which Kaddaffee can walk all over right?:shhh:
I mean if we're gonna be honest...we might as well call this what it really is...testing..testing where the world is now verses where it was when Bush was in office. Must be a kinder, gentler place for terrorist countries with Obama at the helm huh?
