Synopsis: Dems plan 500+ healthcare rallies by labor day.

Faced with a souring public mood on health care reform, Democrats and their supporters are launching a national grassroots push Wednesday to show lawmakers that the majority of Americans still support overhauling the system.

Reform supporters are planning to hold more than 500 events between Wednesday and when lawmakers return to Washington Sept. 8, ranging from neighborhood organized phone banks to professionally staffed rallies with hundreds of people.

The Democratic National Committee and its grassroots arm, Organizing for America - LOL!!!!, are helping to organize the effort along with the Health Care for America Now, a group pushing to create government-run insurance plan.

“In these last few weeks of recess we want to demonstrate the energy, passion and commitment that the American people have to health insurance reform so that when members return after Labor Day they know that they can turn their attention to getting this done because they have the backing of the American people,” said DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse.

Supporters have their work cut out for them. Many lawmakers were thunderstruck over the August recess by the anger and outrage expressed by their constituents in town hall meetings across the country. And in poll after poll, support for reform has eroded throughout the month.

But Democrats and their allies insist that the majority of Americans still support reform and have organized the grassroots campaign to buck up lawmakers as they get ready to head back to Washington.

A health-insurance-reform-now bus will travel the country starting Wednesday and anchor events in 11 cities: Phoenix, Albuquerque, Denver, Des Moines, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Charlotte, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio.

But the talk of broad health insurance
reform does mean that progressives have backed off their push for a government-run insurance option.

“We want members of Congress to get back to work and pass reform that means something. We need affordable care. We need real insurance regulation. And we need a strong public health insurance option,” said HCAN spokeswoman Jacki Schechner. “It’s doable and we expect it to get done now.”

The national-socialists, aka Nazi's, in this country are getting in lock-step for their coup attempt to take over America and destroy freedom and capitalism.

Then we have to be there asking the hard questions.

Questions mean someone has to answer.... well.. sort of answer.
Like the AARP guy who still, in three weeks has not said if AARP supports the prez, Or not. Talk about wiggle!!

Question Every thing.
When are they going to put to right SS, Medicare, and Medicaid, which are BROKE---- Hello...... Before they put another huge expense in the
"Paid for by Taxpayers" column??? when? hmm?

Democrats are 'progressive'. They live for the future. What's going on now is really of no concern. Because in the future, we can all do drugs legally, John can smoke Billy's pole at morning mass, there won't be any more rich people that aren't 'progressive', and heatlhcare will be available to everyone in the world and no one will ever have to pay for it.

Won't life be wonderful?

I'm glad to see both sides mobilizing to get out and express their views. No matter what side you support it's better to have so many people involved in politics rather than the usual apathy.

Awesome, I wonder if they will troll out their Soviet flags like they did on election night.

+1.

Possible irony.
Obama wanted a quick vote.
The opposition successfully stopped that.
Thereby giving the plans supporters the time needed to sway popular opinion.

Not saying it will happen that way, but it's possible.
Then the opposition will lament the fact of delaying a vote when the numbers were on their side.

Politicians are only good at one thing... and it's not running car companies or healthcare in America. It's scamming for VOTES. If they're stupid enough to be taken in by a bunch of faux-grassroots call-in drives... they DESERVE what' going to happen to them at the polls in 2010 and 2012.

Personally, I don't think any but a few will fall for it.

Thats exactly what I was thinking when I saw the article just now. Not only were all the signs mass produced, they looked exactly the same! Seems like they would have been a little more creative than that! Then you look at the crowd at the town hall's and you know it is from the heart of the person carrying the sign.

Obama is still pushing as well, scheduled to talk about health care reform to the adoring masses in Cincinnati at the annual AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic.

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090824/NEWS0108/908250307/Obama+to+visit+Labor+Day

“AFL-CIO’s Labor Day picnic is probably the largest Labor Day picnic in the country … It’s a great crowd,” said Tim Burke, chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party. “It’s a part of (Obama’s) base that supported his candidacy and they need to be rallied to be on board with the Obama health plan.”
