I'm generally ignored on the forums by many. However, I'd think that such an important subject as this would cause many to forget the messenger and be all over the message who knew?
Your not being ignored...it's still early Mgifford. ;)
First..allow to me humbly correct a premise in your OP. We, meaning the American Medical/Research/Development of Medical Science has yet to 'defeat' or irradiate any disease off the planet. Oh, they may have vaccinated the possibility of keeping a disease within a confines of a small out break cluster...but that is far from irradiation. Suppression of a disease like Polio...sure...suppression of clusters of T.B....you bet...irradiation?...not by a long shot.
Having vaccination policies (loose as they are) to ensure our children are properly vaccinated prior to beginning a public school education is the only line of defense..and it's breached every day. How? Easy enough, new arrivals that are not from the USA are given a completely different set of standards to met while attending our schools prior to having all vaccinations up to date. That takes literally months...and we can't have illegals or resident aliens children not in school can we? So yes...your correct in that there in lays a certain percentage of the larger issue. Not the entire issue, but a good portion of it. :shifty:
The next large percentage of spreading disease we have 'controlled' is in our work force. Picking our food; preparing our food; working in area's that handles and deals with food and food packaging. Dealing with the greater public while working in this specific type of work..ie food prep/food harvesting/serving/working in food type industries is the most effective way to spread diseases that our immune system's no longer have tolerances for. Typhoid Mary anyone? Yet there is no standard in may of these area's that demand these workers be fully vaccinated prior to starting work. Granted, many of these types of workers are being paid under the table...or are temporary legal workers who do not need to meet the same standard as say an American born worker within the same field. It's a double standard..it's about money..and whose to pay for whom to be properly vaccinated in order not to have said dormant diseases come back up from the abyss and bite us in the bum.
Granted, we can catch most of these diseases prior to full outbreaks...usually. Vaccinations for children need to be made more stringent in their application and law...as it stands right now...you can object to a vaccination as long as a doctor signs a paper for you that says he explained all the ins' and outs of a vaccination and what can happen if your child isn't properly vaccinated...and these all natural ubber hippie throw back parents can refuse said vaccination and walk away. But hey..the school has a piece of paper that says a doctor explained it to them so it must be ok right? :shifty:
Scary stuff to be sure. Makes sure all your vaccinations and flu shots are kept up to date if your in a age range that makes you susceptible.
Can't put a price on your health...most precocious thing we possess imo.
