I pulled into a gas station to fill up and as I pulled up to the pump I noticed the guy at the pump in front of me had a lit cigarette in his mouth while he was pumping his gas. As I walked in to pay first I politely told him he should'nt smoke while pumping gas.

He gave me a dirty look and told me in a harsh tone of voice "Mind your own ******* buisness!!!!". So I laughed and walked in to pay.

Then as I was pumping my gas he kept looking back at me with a "I outta kick your ass" look on his face. Then when his tank was full and with the lit cigarette still in his mouth he pulled out the nozzle with his left hand and it dumped a lot of fuel onto his right arm.

No big deal, the cig in his mouth didnt lite the fuel. Then as he walked to his car door he looked back at me again even more ticked off than before and as he opened his door with his right arm, the door glass swung into the lit cigarette in his mouth knocking the burning end off and onto his gas soaked arm and......POOOOOFF, WE HAVE IGNITION.

Now the fool is runnnig around screaming and flapping his burning arm like a one winged duck trying to fly. With the flames intensifying he ran out in front of the gas station screaming for help, Im not about to help the jerk.

About this time a Police car was passing by on the road in front of the gas station and sees whats going on. The Cop cuts across all lanes of traffic and pulls into the stations driveway screeching his tires as he turns in. The flaming fool sees the cop and runs towards the Cop. Then the Cop slams on his brakes, slings open his door and gets out and while standing behind his open door pulls out his gun and fires BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM, and the screaming, burning idiot drops dead on the ground.

I could'nt believe what I saw, I could'nt figure out why he shot the guy but maybe he was a known dangerous felon? I didnt want to get invovled in a long investigation so I took off real quick.
I got home in the evening and turned on the local five o'clock news and sure enuff it was the lead story. They said the Police shooting was justified, the man was running at the Officer waving a fire arm.

*feigns laughter* ha ha…um…ha? ;)

The first thing that set me off that his was a joke was that the cigarette ignited the gas. A cigarette ember isn't hot enough to ignite gasoline. Or so my chemist friend tells me.

No feigned laughter here...that's them there is funny! LOL

The above site details under what circumstances a lit cigarette can ignite fuel/gasoline/fuel vapor. Granted, temp verses what type of fuel you have and depending on the circumstance, a 500 degree to 1000+ degree lit cigarette can ignite a fuel based substance. I'm sure your chemist friends can corroborate said findings for you. ;)

You can snuff cigarettes by tossing them into a pail of gasoline, but given the proper conditions they can ignite gasoline vapour.

Excellent joke though... :D

You see cops all the time using the car door as a shield, but what stopping power does the door provide??

Much more than just standing in the open.

Much more than just standing in the open.

Maybe less. The door can cause fragmentation and shrapnel increasing the chance of injury.

The door also reduces your profile and can deflect incoming rounds. Paired with a vest, it's better than the open.

Yes... paired with a vest it is better than being in the open. Being behind the door also makes you a much less visible and distinct target. (Is that what you meant by "reduced profile"?) But the door will not stop bullets fired straight on much better than the window.

How much would it cost to add a panel of armor plate into the front doors of Police cars? If done at the factory, I can't imagine it would be all that much.
