Pretty sorry when you have a majority in both houses and you still are a lame duck.
Reconciliation may be the only way for him to get his healthcare malfunction to pass, but it will cost the Dems control of the Congress, Senate and Oval Office for at least a generation to come.

we are broke. He may be and there is a good chance he doesn't care. Obama has an agenda to send America down a different path. He will count success as setting that monster in motion knowing full well that once the numbers of those who benefit from the government "doing for them" swell, this will be one damn tough boat to turn around. Obama's presidency is about repartations. If he can't have a second term, so be it.

No kidding. Either the most evil, corrupt, violent prone antichrist to ever sit in the White House or an inept leader with no power to do anything on his agenda. I love how the target so effortlessly swings from one end of the spectrum to the other.

I am an independent and don't fit into the "you guys."
Bush was not stupid, idiotic or inept. I personally though he had a solid intelligence level. My beef with Bush was him opening the federal wallet to greedy GOPers in exchange for them voting for war. That and gluing the rose colored glasses on, deluding himself into thinking Iraqis would embrace us as victors and the war could be done on the cheap, with no national sacrifice called for.
Obama should actually learn from Bush. He is making some of the same mistakes, allowing Congressional critters to control the actions and using the glasses to think health care will be cheap and a great success.

Obama will not be a lame duck unless he pulls a "Matt Blunt". Blunt (son of Congressman Roy Blunt) was the Republican Governor of Missouri from 2005-2009. In 2008 he announced he would not be running for a second term because he had accomplished everything he wanted to during his first term. He assured us that despite the Republican controlled legislature still having a dozen plus bills being debated and his approval numbers being in the toilet, those things had nothing to do with his decision not to seek re-election.

This.
That's why they call this an "echo chamber", you have the entire spectrum from pretty far right to really far right talking, and all anyone ever hears is the far right viewpoint.
Obama's not a lame duck, unless you live in an echo chamber.

Actually there are more vulnerable or open seats currently being held by Republicans. Due to resignations, etc. That is the basis of my prediction along with demographic changes.
The hope that the economy will still be in the tank in 2010 is the GOP's best chance. Even minimal to moderate improvement will make things very difficult for Republicans.

boehner will prob be the new speaker.
The 1994 election was heavily influenced by:
1) Massive voluntary retirements (both parties) fueled when campaign laws no longer allowed representatives to convert campaign funds to private funds.
2) The "Contract with America" was a very well played out campaign tool (parts of which were abandoned as soon as the election was over).
3) Newt is an eloquent speaker.
Fast forward to today:
1) There is no change in campaign laws spurring massive voluntary retirements.
2) The Republicans don't have a message other than "we hope they fail".
3) The Republicans don't have an eloquent speaker in the forefront who can inspire/motovate the political middle. If they do discover one (there are some), they will select someone else as their spokesperson.

I think you need to get beyond conservative talk radio, and conservative talking boards to judge that.
People liked 'that' to totally dominate the last two elections.
Health care town halls are now quite peaceful with actual discussion taking place.
And issue by issue polls still show people trusting Democrats more than Republicans on most issues.

Ironic on how people who refuses government controlled healthcare are "angry americans" yet people who were against the war and Bush were not. The fact remains that if Obama continues this healthcare debacle, he will force many democrats to decide if they are for or against his views in 2010.

Odds favor you in that Democrats will probably lose seats in both houses in 2010 since the party of the incumbent almost always loses favor in the first off year election cycle. Whether they will lose enough to lose both houses is doubtful, however.
Giving your guy a pass on the economy after eight years and blaming the other guy after less than a year is rather disingenuous, though. If the economy still stinks after a few years I will concede president Obama's policies have failed, but now it's too early to really tell.

I hear the left take pokes at the republicans about the party being broken and no one to lead it. It wasn't that long ago when Hillary wouldn't concede to Obama and the democrats were firmly split in half. I never had any interest in seeing Hillary win and I thought if Obama won, he'd never get anything through congress in one piece because of that split.....they may have overwhelming majorities in the house and the senate but, not if you're always going to have some straying from the pack. The party got back together to elect Obama and by making friends with Hillary and putting her in his cabinet, that definitely helped solidify the party....but, that split was pretty close to 50/50 depending on how you looked at it. I can't see it completely disappearing suddenly and the entire party being able to unite as one....there's always going to be some stragglers....like the blue dogs now.
I hate that politics get involved in something as important as this health bill but, there 's a lot at stake here for both sides in that sense and it's interfering. If he doesn't get anything passed on the health bill, I think it will start to look like, he came out strong (too strong....trying to do everything at once) and fizzled out gradually. If he does get it through, well then he'll be the guy that finally managed to get health reformed.....that will give him big points. I think some on the far left want that so bad, they're willing to not bother reading anything too.
The one thing a senator has on his/her side that other candidates won't have if they're running for president, is the relationships he/she's built up with other senators (from both sides) while in the senate. Obama didn't even have that as a junior senator....he was on his first term and he spent most of it campaigning.
