One of mine comes with me to work. Tell ya what, it makes the day better. Anyone else bring their pup to the job?

Somehow I don't think my regulars at SBUX would appreciate Winston the Fat Head Dog joining me behind the bar :))

I used to take dog with me years ago--commercial fishing. But, fish and Wildlife then said no dogs on board when there is product on board. Dog was not a happy sailor...

haha, "Fat Jack".:) I work from home, office work, self-employed, and my big black lab puppy is named Jack. He's a handful, the joy of my life, yet I am constantly wondering if there might be someone out there who would love to have him. :))
Back in May, when we got him, he weighed 7 lbs. (we rescued him) And today, he weighs at least 50 lbs., maybe more! A huge dog, with a big big heart!

My dogs are Democrats - they lay around the house all day, refusing to do any work, and expect me to take care of them.

Hmm, just like the kids. I'm running a damn commune here.

Absolutely not. And I have 5 dogs.

I have an insurance agent client that keeps his HUGE dog in his office during the day. It smells of wet dog, the dog greets everyone that comes in the door with drool on their pants and shoes, and there's hair everywhere.

I can tolerate it, because I'm used to dogs, but I'm sure he loses business because of it.

I work from home too - with two big pound hounds hanging around. Please give your labby a long walk every day before you sit down to work - it will make him less of a handful. Yes, there are people who would love to have him, but whom does he love?

Why would you? I'm allergic to cats and suffering from a bad reaction to a customer who brought her cat to the mall on a leach.

Why do people bring their pets everywhere they go?

I have friends who bring their dog whenever we invite them over.

A totally obnoxious Jack Russell.

The first hour or so, the dog is so excited that he bounces off the walls, tears up stuff, and is, in general, a complete pain in the ass. After the first hour, he settles down and then just craps and pees all over the house. They even give him doggy Ritalin to try to calm him down, but it doesn't seem to work.

They leave it to my wife and me to clean up his messes, and continually fawn over the dog and exclaim how 'cute' he is.

These people seem to wonder why we don't invite them over anymore.

My mother's old co-worker/friend did. I loved when I was sick and went into work with her.

He was a cocker spaniel named Dock.

Best way to keep "unwanteds" away from your house: (must own a dog for this to work)

Invite the "unwanteds" over for dinner. Once dinner is finished, place all the dirty plates on the floor and let your dog lick them clean. Then put the "clean" plates back in the cupboard.

They'll never come back - guaranteed.

2 of the gun stores here in my town keep atleast 1 lab in their store. they never smell and they are always friendly.
One of the guys even taught one of his dogs to make deposits at teh bank.
The newspaper got wind of it and did a story on it with a picture of the dog putting the money bag on the counter at the bank, pretty neat to be honest with ya

Would love to, since they are big ass Rotts. I wouldn't have to worry about the purchasing manager or anybody else harrassing me for that matter. They'd be too afraid that I'd say "go for it Milly" or "Get em D.O.G"

I've had friends who loved having my dog over and others who would never want a dog in their house. I always asked, but why didn't you just tell your friends not to bring the dog along?

Why should anyone have to ask a guest not to bring their pets along for the visit? If I invite you to my home, I'm inviting you, not little Fido.

There you go! I would NEVER think of bringing that Fat Headed dog of mine unless he was invited...and what's up with bringing your dog to every public event. PEOPLE leave them at home they are just a nuisance and not everyone is totally enamored with little fluffy whom you think is a piece of jewelry or clothing.

He is madly in love with me, without question.:D But he also loves everyone else, so I think he would forget me soon enough if I gave him away. The problem is that I am disabled, so he is more than I can handle. The thought of giving him away rips my heart out, and I haven't the guts to do it yet. But I do think Jack would fair better with a young family with kids, and not an old lady like me.:(

Yeah, Jack's a fat guy. Adopted a 1 1/2 ago. The skinny one stays at home, I don't think Casper would be good for business. Little too hyper.
I understand about your guy though. Labs are wonderful dogs, but they do need exercise. Maybe some neighborhood kids would play with him for you? Hope it works out.

My buddy just put down his Rott girl a couple months ago. She was the sweetest dog around. Never even heard her growl. Huge too, pushed 150 pounds when she stopped being as active. They would be a great tool to get what you want at work though eh?

Very much, and I'd never have a bad day. It seems like any day I am around my bears (that's what I affectionately call them) i seem to be unable to have a bad day.

Milly at her peak was 140# and had the musculature of a trained pit, solid muscle. I have only heard her growl at people a couple of times, and then she just sat on my foot between me and them. She is a very sweet and intellegent dog, she knows when to be nice and when to not be nice, but would only engage if i told her or if i was in clear and present danger.
D.O.G (yes that's her name) is at her peak now of about 90# and she is still just a big ol puppy.

I would love to have them with me here but it'd just be wrong to take them from my parents house where they have 500+ acres that they can do as they please on to here where they wouldn't have that.

I actually told my wife, the first time she went home to meet the parents that if the dogs don't like her then it is over, and I was dead serious. Obviously they liked her cuz were married:lol:

That's ridiculous. Owner is obviously attention seeking.

I love animals, but they dont' belong everywhere. One of those places is the mall. Hate cats on leashes, cats aren't leash pets. Hate cats and dogs in tote bags, they're animals, not accessories but if they're not in my universe, rock on. I just have to struggle not to roll my eyes when I see it.

Love my dogs, but they're not going anywhere univited, and sometimes when they're invited, I'll still balk depending upon the circumstances.

I think that 'dogs at work' depends entirely upon what sort of work that you're talking about. If some guy works at an old garage as a mechanic and has Fido there, no problem. But I'm not walking in someplace that is office-like, and wanting to see that person's pet. I especially dislike it if I have to play pole position to avoid the pet in order to do my business.

But again, have run into them at farmer's markets and the like, no big deal. Just make it optional for me to have to deal with them. If they're in the territory of others and it's not invited, it's rude.

Not saying you should have to ask. And as I said I always asked and would never bring my dog to someone's house without permission.
But if they are your friends and you do want them over to your house sans fido then it seems reasonable to tell them that rather then severing ties.
Just a thought.

To me, it seems more reasonable that I wouldn't have to tell my friends to leave the dog behind. As you've said, a good owner will ask first, and if they've been to a person's house more than once they know whether or not to bring the dog.

Wow, some friends. I am retired so my two dogs are with me most of the day. One is a German Shepherd/wolf mix and the other is mostly Great Pyrenees. About four weeks ago we had five dogs with us. But my son bought his own house and took his Syberian Husky and beagle with him. That same weekend our fourteen year old Australian Shepherd passed away. With only two dogs, the house seems way too quiet. I love my dogs and they would lay down their life for me. Not many people I know would do that.

People are only allowed to carry their pets to the mall... Dogs and I assume cats, must be in purses or in ther owners' arms. But she let the beast down on its leach after the security guard had passed by and before I could stop it, the cat had wound its way all around my kiosk and when I went by two days later, I was sneezing up a storm all over again.

Katie is my co-pilot. I work in Master Control of a TV station. I work the graveyard shift and Katie lets me know when people come into the building. She is a comfort and the best companion.

We spend most of our time together. Right now she's eyeing me from her chair. I love the fact the my boss is a dog-nut like me. He knows Katie will be home with me long before anyone gets here in the morning.

I drove a cab in NYC for 2 summers and I took my pit-bull with me. The one in my avatar.(Pit-bulls were not common in NYC then).
I would have been fined if a I was caught with the dog but I always got a cab without a hot seat.
I would end up in Harlem and the South Bronx a lot and my black fares asked if dogs were a new policy and thought it would help them get more cabs in the ghetto.
No one needs a cab more than a honest normal person in a bad neighborhood.
He jumped in the back seat with a woman fare.
I don't know what he did but I got a $10 tip.(In '71 that was a taste)

Speaking of dogs at work, where did the expression 'working like a dog' come from?

Pretty much every dog I've ever met spends most of its day laying around doing nothing, and have never shown the slightest inclination to do any work.

Looking to my left, my two hounds are sacked out, snoring away.
