The best version of the game was the Sega Genesis version, followed by the SNES version and then the Gameboy version. I still think it's ridiculous that a beetle can kill a lion cub though. Ain't no beetle can kill no lion. Major plot hole in the game.

Saw it with my boyfriend (now husband) and at first glance, we were a bit DISTURBED.
Hadn't seen children's programming since I was a kid, so the whole "I killed your father" meme made us look at each other with dismay.
Since then, we've been inundated with children's programming. The Lion King is nothing compared to other stuff we've seen.
Catchy tunes. Hakuna Matada!
Haven't seen the stage show, and probably would.

I'm a fan of the SNES version myself.
You really had to dedicate yourself to the game, not being able to save. The best you could hope for is to really rack up those extra lives and extra continues.
Or just be awesome and not die ever.

Besides the beetles, it was a great game. I still remember when my parents were awesome enough to buy it as a Christmas present for me and my brothers. As far as games based on movies go, it was one of the better ones.

That movie holds a very special place in my heart. Haven't watched it in years, because the memories are too emotional.

I enjoyed the original very much and then Disney had to go and create the other "Lion King" movies which were not very good at all. Kind of tarnished the original.

I loved that movie. The warthog cracked me up. They call me MR. PIG!!!!!!!! :)) Of course it wasn't long after the movie came out that our local baseball team was renamed the Warthogs, but our mascot's name was Wally, not Pumbaa.

Love the Lion King.
Sang a medley from it in choir my senior year of high school, and had a great time doing it.

The SNES version, while graphically superior to the Genesis version (due to a better color palette) suffers the same as many earlier SNES titles did with slowdown when a lot of action hits the screen. Slowdown is a horrible flaw in a platformer because when you're timing the jumps and the gameplay suddenly stutters, it makes it well nigh impossible to complete.
The game was one of a very select few movie title games that were actually good. Most of them suffer the Curse of E.T., where the money is eaten up in the license and little is left for the actual R&D of the game itself. E.T., the Atari 2600 game is almost always in any list of the top ten worst games of all time. Movie title games are rarely, if ever, palatable much less good.
The Lion King broke that mold and actually turned out to be a decent platformer.

I've already got the cartridge for my 2600, thanks. I still use it for comparison, like if a game sucks I pull that out to compare it against a 1-10 scale of suckage that goes from Duck Hunt (mild suckage 1 scale) to E.T. (grand suckage 10 scale).
The Lion King is one of a very few movie license games that doesn't score at least a 4 on the Suckage Scale.
The last movie license game I played was Kung Fu Panda. That's about a 6 on the suckage scale.

I saw the stage show at Disney World when my children were still young. Of course, we saw the movie when it came out in the theaters and had to have the tape the day it was released, too. (We had a large collection of Disney movies on tape in the days before the DVD became the norm) My kids collected all the Lion King stuffed animals while we were there visiting Disney World.
My second daughter is a fantastic artist and she has always been able to draw well. After we went on some of the tours of the animation studios there she was inspired to further her artistic skills. She has had art classes since and all along she has been drawing the Lion King characters perfectly.
Some of her work has been posted and shared online with some of the groups she belonged to. I’ve seen some of it as she was doing it on the computer and I was amazed at how accurate she could recreate the different emotions in their faces.
She has hundreds of pencil sketches and full color art in her collection that would no doubt be accepted by any Disney artist as being as good as their own.
When the stage show went on tour and came to our city the kids (now much older) were so excited to see it again.

I think it's cute, aside from that stupid "can you feel the love tonight" song, which makes me twitchy. Though I like most of the Disney movies with talking animals.

With the right actors, a stage play of a movie can be terrific. I saw the stage play of Evita when it was on tour in Greensboro 3 years ago and it was incredible. OTOH, I saw the stage play of Chicago in NYC when I was there, and it was not nearly the quality of the movie.

I don't know, I saw the movie of Evita not long ago and actually thought it was pretty good. But the stage play was magnificent. Chicago was the other way around. The movie is 10 times better than the play.

One thing that sort of bothered me about the movie "The Lion King" was the use of CGI graphics. It's readily apparent in the stampede scene that it was done by computer and I think it crosses a line that I never expected Disney to cross. Computer generated art is still art, but in an artificial way like expecting sugar but getting saccharin. I was disappointed that Disney went that route.
