I don't know what it's called, but I've heard of some dude's theory that every so many hundreds/thousands of years, power shifts from east to west/west to east. No, I'm not talking about new age spiritual power lines of the racunadian underworld. I'm talking about economic/military/technological power. I don't know the name of it or the guy so I can't look it up. But do any of you smarter people lend credence to what it says and do you believe we are in the midst of one of thee shifts? If so, why or why not?

Personally, and I will probably be slammed for this, the shift is not so much east vs west as it is the elite moving slowly towards their new world order. It is a small group of very rich people deciding how we should live our lives and what is best for us. The power has always been in the same place it is just how they exert their influence that fluctuates with time and the populations.

I'd like to know more details, but the basic premise is sound.
The the Chinese, Greeks, Arabs, Persians, Indians, and Japanese had advanced civilizations when Western Europe was living in uneducated squalor.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe wouldn't be the center of world civilization for at least 700 years.

yes, that's the kind of thing this theory refers to and I cannot remmber the person's name or what the theory is called. But "they" think we are in a shift now from the west back to the east. CHina and India are good examples.

Perhaps you could consider that they did have complete control of the western hemisphere for centuries, even though they were not united.

not really. America grew to be a superpower. I think when the person referes to the west he's also including europe. So it isn't just about the americas per se.

The Mayans built giant pyramids when Europeans were wallowing in their own waste.

Attending an under grad course on international relations theory does not make reality.

I would say that we're beyond power shifting. Seems like instant worldwide communication would keep any one nation from becoming truely dominant, and those that aren't able to communicate in this way are quickly becoming able therefore will hopefully soon come out of their third world status. "A rising tide lifts all boats" seems to me the theory we're living today.

The bankers would love it. But they are the global power. The elite, run the world, we are just tricked into believing we have the control. Do the research, a couple names for people to check into if you want more information are....

David Icke
Alex Jones

These gentlemen both have many ideas and some proof as to their claims. I am not a conspiracy nut, but these guys make sense.

Technically we're more on the tail end of a golden age. I don't know how much longer we can keep going with this till a collapse occurs and we enter a second dark age.

As for power, we're looking more at a consolidation of power to rekindle the one world government akin to the story of Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. The elite are trying to make the world safe for them and solidify permanent power for a new global nobility.

The Tower of Babel... I seem to recall that didn't end well either.

no and there are many parrallels with Old Testament nations and ours-good and bad.

I did some more looking on the net but most of what I saw was about Asia and India being the new world powers.

I also heard that just prior to the collapse of rome, their senate was corrupt, they were immoral and they started raising taxes for (get this) road and highway repair. They nailed the middle class pretty hard and it all seemed to collapse shortly thereafter. I haven't studied it myself so I don't know that this is fact.

Yes I know that happened. One of these days I should read the Rise and Fall of Rome... I believe that's the title. I only know it in general theory from my college history minor days.

We are mimicking many of Rome's mistakes, but it isn't quite the perfect analogy, and because of technology those failings are affecting us much faster.

Even worse when you are thinking hard about it: "Whats the name of that guy? You know, the one in that movie? I can picture his face."
