What is a burquini?

Um... I can't figure out how that would be any more unhygienic than any other bathing suit. I'd rather wear something like that, honestly. I hate showing my legs. It's not much different from wearing what the Olympic swimmers wore and a swim-cap.

What is a burquini?

Look at the OP's link.

It's basically a head to toe swimsuit. It has a face opening that is similar to a scuba wetsuit's facial opening.

IMHO, the French are just crazy.

IMHO, the French are just crazy.I looked up some other pictures, and it could be a different style that would be more like a jogging suit. If that were the case I can understand.

The phrench are phunny when it comes to swimming attire. They dont even allow board shorts on guys in most of the swimming areas.

Her being muslim has nothing to do with it.

If the western culture was more modest, it would not have the problems it is having. The problems can be traced to the infidels.....

You're right!

Oh, wait...!

Who'd have thought that Western culture had its own modesty standards at one point of time?

What is a burquini?

Click on the link in the OP to see what they look like. They are basically a 2 piece fitted pant suit with a hood to cover the woman head to foot so that only their hands, feet and face show.

The article I read said that the pools have a restriction on people wearing 'street clothing' in the pools. These berkinis look like street clothing.

They can be unsanitary if the person does not wash them between uses. With that much fabric they could introduce a lot of bacteria, mold, etc into the pool.

Normal swim suits are made of materials that dry quickly so they resist the growth of bacteria, mold, etc.

Fabric also shed fibers in water clogging the filter system. So the more fabric in a pool, the more expensive it is to keep the pool clean. Of course human hair is an issue with the filters too.

The safty issue might be that the head-cover/hood can block sight and hearing. So a swimmer might not hear or see a the other swimmer before they run into them.

I believe that the bolded portion is the best argument against the full-length modest swimwear.

If a bathing-suit is sufficient for inoculating a public pool with enough bacteria to cause infections, then the bathing suit is not the only problem!!! Chlorine content (if properly managed) should be enough to disinfect a public pool.

In a similar vein.

Alton Towers holiday resort in Britain has bannned the wearing of "Speedo" style swimming trunks as being unsuitable for a family swimming pool.

BTW. The Aussies call swimming trunks "Budgie smugglers". Can you guess why?

The French are as peculiar about a burquini as the Muslim countries would be about someone wearing a French bikini in their public pool...

"Harmful to other swimmers?" Uh... how?

This is France we're talking about here. Why am I not surprised that some idiot is making a fuss over a fully covered woman at a public swimming pool? Thank God we're not France...or England.

One of the posts here stated that men can't wear Bermuda shorts or long shorts for swimming either. Looks like Spedo type mens wear is all that is acceptable. Um...not to be gross..but there are some men out there that simply should never wear that style of swim suit...know what I mean? :eh:
