View Full Version : AARP news today sort of cleaning Obama's clock

Virtually everywhere I'm hearing news today, even the local generic radio stations, the one common topic is about Obama falsely saying AARP is on board with him.
This is a good news coverage and fortunately consistent throughout the community.

they are onboard with Obama, but because they are losing members and getting their mailouts back with "shut up" on them, this is their coverup.

Obama gets a taste of his own medicine.
AARP is throwing him under the bus.
Go figger.... brings to mind that old saying about rats deserting the sinking ship. ;)

A group usually seen as one of Barack Obama's allies in the health care debate -- AARP -- says the president went too far Tuesday when he said the seniors lobby had endorsed the legislation pending in Congress.
AARP is sensitive to the issue because polls show that Medicare beneficiaries are worried their health care program will be cut to subsidize coverage for the uninsured.
At the town hall in Portsmouth, N.H., Obama said, "We have the AARP onboard because they know this is a good deal for our seniors." He added, "AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare."
But Tom Nelson, AARP's chief operating officer, said, "Indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate."

I agreed AARP is on board but they do not want Obama to mention their name. They are losing too many members. Unless, Obama's statement may have been planned with AARP to stop the breeding of lost members. Obama mentioned they are on board with him and AARP come out and discredit Obama. It makes AARP members feel better and no more lost of members. But support for Obamacare is done in the background.

Not surprising, AARP reps were all over TV the past week adamantly denying they were backing any plan right now and then Obama cuts them off at the knees. Of course we all know they do back whatever Obama tells them to but now they need to go around again and either say they were lieing last week or Obama was.

the new health care bill proposes 500 billion cut in medicare & AARP supports it. they do support it, they sent form letters to thier members to sign & send to Senators & Congressman supporting the new plan. I am not a member, I got wise to them a while ago, only pedaling programs they get a cut on & are considered non -profit..lol .

Obama never said they supported a "cut" did he?
There is a difference between a component of a bill and the bill, just as there is between an automobile and an alternator for the automobile..

I'd love to know how many members AARP loses because of this! They'll never tell.
As Obama's poll numbers drop and as support of this healthcare Obomination fall look for more to throw Obama under the bus.
Can't wait till 2010!

Can't wait till 2010!I think AARP is worried about their tax exempt status. This looks an awful lot like partisan political support, which would violate tax exempt status rules.

AARP tells Obama: No health plan endorsement yet
By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR (AP) – 21 hours ago
WASHINGTON — A group usually seen as one of Barack Obama's allies in the health care debate — AARP — says the president went too far Tuesday when he said the seniors lobby had endorsed the legislation pending in Congress.
Like Obama, AARP wants action this year to cover the uninsured and restrain health care costs, but the organization has refrained from endorsing legislation. Nelson said AARP would not endorse a bill that reduces Medicare benefits.
A spokesman said the Medicare cuts that have been proposed so far would not affect benefits.

The Obama who actually heard Rev Wright's racist speeches is the one who is for single payer and lied about the AARP being on board..
the other one must be who most people voted for..

If AARP supports as an undercurrent, Obama still made a blunder, because it makes him look incoherent.
If they don't support him, it makes him look like a liar of bluffer.
Either way, coupled with statements like how the Postal Service has problems compared to the likes of Fed-Ex, Obama really put sand in the machinery.
Even if his message was real and promising, he pretty much put it into a dealth spiral this week.

Don't get the party hats out just yet.
I bet they were on board with O until their membership started getting upset. They are probably Just stepping back for a moment to take inventory. But I hope not, I hope their members continue to create problems.

If they can't back a candidate, if they are tax exempt, can they take a stand for changes of laws and rules?
