Mounds don't have mounds and is called Mounds. On the other hand, the one with two mounds is called Almond Joy.

Why is that?

I've often wondered that myself.

Although I did hear that they were planning to build a Sam's Club on a Milky Way.

I believe it is the History channel that did a story on 'candy' awhile back. 'Mounds' didn't start out as the candy we know today. WW2 changed it from the Konabar to Mounds when supplies of coconut and sugar became strained. The 'Mounds' name as I understood it, is from the sheets and sheets of the first trays coming off...mounds after perfect little dark chocolate covered mound could be seen in straight little lines.....and thus..the simple name of "Mounds" Candy.

Here is a brief history of the candy:

LOL...I was having a 'down' day at home...damn nerve pain..sneaks up and bites ya in the..well you get the idea. Anyway..History channel has this series on the history on any one product. Pretty interesting stuff really. I just happen to remember this story as I love Mounds..one of my favorite candies. If my memory is correct, it was his young child who made the observation how 'pretty' the 'mounds' of neatly made candy looked on the trays...how it made them feel hungry. That gave the founder an idea for a nice simple name. And..it stuck. :D

See if the History channel is offering that series on it's web site....some of the stuff they give the history on..like tractors...the car...machines...computers...food...it's really amazing stuff. Great stories and back stories to them all as well.

Enjoy....and um...save some of those mounds for me will ya? lol

I love the History Channel, but I must have missed this one! I like that show "Unwrapped" too, it tells the origin of foods, etc. Maybe "Unwrapped" is on the History Channel? I remember seeing a show about how those candy paper dots were made and candy necklaces.

I'm a documentary junkie too, and I love seeing how things originated (as far as people can tell).

Thanks for all the great information!

Yeah Yeah Yeah...the candy dots one..I saw that one too...and yes, that the History channel. Comes up on my cable channel as His-I (for International maybe?)

I'm also a fellow documentary junkie...I got bit young...started with those damn Great Apes and that gal who would live with them for months at a time...darn...forget her name...but you know the one I mean right? Bug bit me then..and still enjoy them to this very day.

The one on Tractors was interesting...as was the one on Popcorn. Cool program...hope they continue it for some time to come. Nothing else on worth watching anymore. Bunch of programs are this reality T.V. stuff......no value and faux drama...so not my cup of tea.

Wish you hadn't asked such a fascinating and intriguing question. I've been stewing and fretting over it for hours. I posed the question via email to www.Hersheys.com. So far they haven't responded. The question is too important to be ignored. America, the world and Mexico (where they are made) deserves an answer.
