I've got an old 90's game on 3DO called "Mathemagics"which does the same trick. I still just use a calculator most of the time anyway.

How much outdoors math does anyone do to use a solar powered calculator? I do all of my math inside. They should be called light bulb powered calculators if there were any truth in advertising.

$33.00 dollars? No...wouldn't waste that much. Maybe $9.99 (with shipping an handling of course) and only if I had a child in school that could use such a method. As I'm old and have no children in school (k-12) presently, I think I'll pass. ;)

To his credit however...this man took a method...made it into a six page booklet, bought a patented..and is now selling his idea. America and her innovative people..always inspiring.

Yes, it's true that I do NO calculating outside but even without the lights on it still works so it's solar powered rather than light bulb powered. Makes me think maybe I should try it in a pitch black environment just out of interest;)...

When I was at primary school we went to Skipton Castle in Yorkshire, we all went into the dungeon and the tour guide turned out the light. You genuinely could see NOTHING at all, you literally couldn't see your hand in front of your face, I never had a solar powered calculator at the time though...

It's a trick/method that some people can use very well.

I learned it years ago but it just didn't stick with me.

Yeah, I doubt the validity of any patent or copyright on the method - a copyright on his booklet yes, but not the method that he describes in it. Its probably incorrect for the news reporter to say that he has copyrighted the formula.

Clay, told the News & Observer. "Zip, zip, zap and add 'em together." Based on this statement I'm willing to bet that his method is nothing more than applying the principles of distributivity. There is no code to 'crack.'

Would this be considered another job created by the Obama administration?

Am I the only one on here that remembers Chismbop? That was back in the late 70's or early 80's. I watched a guy do this, along with some kids, on Carson and was amazed. It cost a lot more that 30 some odd dollars though, if I am remembering correctly.

How do you plan on seeing the screen to tell if it works?

They send kids to the dungeon over there? Criminy, here the kids just get detention. That's one strict school!

Ah but the question is like that old philosophical question, if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? In the same way if the calculator's screen came on and nobody was able to see it did it come on?...

My money's on "of course it bloody didn't"...

Anyway it was about 1970 so solar powered calculators hadn't been invented...

I got detention a lot, detention's for wimps but the dungeon was very effective, St Cuthbert's Primary School was quite a tough school, we had corporal punishment, the works...

The nuns would leave you in agony with their very dexterous use of the ruler.......

I'm all screwed up now, I'm sure you've noticed my posts.....:)).....

I don't see how the Obama administration could consider a 'job' was created by this man. Perhaps a boast to local printers or to the Post Office? But more jobs?...I don't see it...but then..we are talking about cook the books Obama when it comes to jobless number these days..so who knows..maybe?

lol...

I have no doubt a few minutes search would reveal several methods, including this one.;)

I was more impressed that this man actually tried to make money off the idea by placing it in pamphlet form and sell it...though I think he has priced it far to high.
