Bond-Missouri

Those in BOLD print are up for election in 2010.
Do you think their vote today will have any impact on their chances?
If so which one(s)?

2010 in general will be extremely important. Lots of critters going to be held to account for their actions.

This doesn't really matter right now.
We knew we'd get stuck with Soto. There was little serious belief that she'd not get confirmed, and also, no reason to hyper-focus on any yes votes for her.
There are more immediate concerns, the main one being stopping the destruction of our health care.

Did democrats lose the black vote when they attacked and ridiculed Clarence Thomas or did they lose the hispanic vote when they sabotaged Alberto Gonzalez.

That of course would give Democrats an improved shot at winning those seats.
They would essentially become an open seat.

No, because Thomas wasn't exactly loved in the black community, nor was Gonzalez in the Hispanic community.
Sotomayor is a different story.

Exactly, because Thomas and Gonzalez were considered Uncle Toms, and since Sotomayor is a liberal she falls in line. Goes to show the pack mentality shown by minorities, "YOU ARENT A REAL BLACK UNLESS YOU VOTE DEMOCRAT!"

No, this won't hurt them. Sotomayor isn't that bad, I like her better than Suter anyways.

It used to be ideology, and opinion didn't matter, only qualifications.
When Bush made his nominations that is what Republicans, and conservatives both said.
But now in the last three confirmation votes for SCOTUS the nominee has failed to get more than half the votes from the opposite party.
Neither party is practicing what they have preached.

I never hear back from Voinovich either, but his vote surprised me. I believe he's not running in 2010. As far as I know he plans to retire.

There was some threads here about that race.
Some conservatives were upset about party backing, or endorsements, I don't remember what.
It will be one of the more interesting races, that is for sure.

Generally speaking, Black and Hispanic communities probably lean left, or are more liberal than the average population. Depends on various issues.

Sad but true. The schism will only get worse ... as evidenced by the number of righties who want those senators who voted for Sontamayor today to be quartered.

Just his seat then.
Might explain his vote.
Maybe he just voted his conscience, I'd have to read his explanation.

Goes to show the twitter about 60 seats in the Senate and similar counting of votes based on the little (R) or (D) is pretty pointless. In the end people vote for what they believe is the right thing, regardless of party loyalty.

You want to know what happened to it? Ask your party who saw fit to inject ideology as a requirement for their vote to the SCOTUS.
Despite the majority of Republicans disagreeing with Ruth Bader Ginsberg's ideology and opinins she still managed to get confirmed by a total of ...
wait for it...
96 to 3.
Their reason was that they shouldn't vote against her just because they disagree with her politics.
With Alito and Roberts the Dems had politics as their motive. With Sotomayor she left a variety of reasons to oppose her, only part of that was her politics.
But even if politics were the sole reason to oppose her - welcome to your own tactics used against you.

I don't.
I favor filibusters only in the rarest of circumstances, and think there should be 'filibuster reform'.
The Democrats were guilty of it, and filibustering in the last Congress by Republicans, in record style, hurt them during the 08' elections.

Best thing we can do?
stop attacking obama and all the other socialists.
We must never ever ever attack the hard core liberals and turn all our focus onto helping Obama defeat people like McConnell, Martinez, Lugar, Bond, Collins etc.

What's the point now? We don't have a chance to st pcloture from being invoked in the Senate. The liberals GOP members cannot keep telling us to "support us because we are your only hope to filibuster anything if you ever need us to".
Now that we're past that point, it makes no difference if the Dems have 60,61,62,63,64,etc... seats. The threat of losing the filibuster is no longer there. Its already gone. And the liberal GOP senators should follow it.

Gaed you folks are sick
we must never ever attack obama.
we must never ever attack his supporters.
we must dedicate all ourtime to attacking REPUBLICANS who stand his way most of the time but once in a while fail.
everyone knows the path to conservative victory lies in first supporting obama and helping him defeat those who are only 80% conservative....
then supporting obama and defeating those who are only 90% conservative . ..
we must defeat obama's opponents. That is how we defeat obama!
guns shmuns I don't care about guns . . . take all the guns you want . ... i got plenty . . . . we must oppose all those who oppose obama 80% of the time!!!!
(forget about those who support him 100% of the time)
constitution shmonstitution . .. it's a long document and the other parts will survive. . . we must all those who oppose obama 80% of the time!!!! (forget about those who support him 100% of the time)

Hi! I believe that the nine Republican Senators who voted Yes for Justice Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation made the right choice. Sonia Sotomayor is not as liberal as Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and I also believe that Sotomayor is not as liberal as Attorney General Eric Holder. And I very much trust Conservative GOP Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Her answer to perceived discrimination is more discrimination - firefighter's case. She stated that the right to abortion was settled law, even though it is not in the constitution, but the right to bear arms is not settled law even though it is part of the constitution. We now have another supreme court justice that rules by her own feelings and not by the law.

Oh by all means, let's get rid of the few remaining non-liberals so that the liberals can keep shoveling more crap into our lives.
