Here it comes, a showdown for the decade. Frank Kimbrough Stadium will play host for this clash of Div. 2 powerhouses which has been so long in the making. This will be Game 1 of the 2009 season for both teams.

The hope always was, they would meet in the playoffs. Year after year one or the other would get bumped off, making that meeting impossible. GVS won two national championships in the mean time and is considered the team to beat in Div 2 practically every year.

For WT, graduation hit hard. They're fielding their youngest and most inexperienced team in years. Gone is QB Keith Null, to the NFL's Rams.... WR Charley Martin, to the Chargers. Many other players were lost as well, but the Buffaloes don't rebuild, they reload.

NFL people better keep an eye on Null..... he's the prototype NFL QB in physical stature and build, and re-wrote the Div 2 passing record book while at WT. He's in a legitimate battle with Brock Berlin for the #3 QB spot on a team that's known to carry three on the roster. If he's cut, some team better pick him up and at least put him on their practice squad. He also, looks like the 70s quarterbacks of old:

Anyhow, he's gone and the Buffaloes have to face GVS without his services. It's going to be a great event and I will be there, among probably 15,000 fans in the little Buffalo bowl. And yes, I will be posting pictures!

The Grand Valley State Lakers are ranked #1 in the country in D-2. WT comes in #8. Gonna be a good game I suspect.

Where's redbeard? He's the GVS fan.

I went to GVSU, but don't got much to say about the game right now. As it gets closer to gameday I will probably do some posting about it.

Although I went to GVSU and try to follow them, truth be told I hear very little about them. They are way down on the pecking order here. First is the two Big Ten schools and then the three MAC schools and then I might hear something about them. Sometimes my local cable company has their games on the community access channel sometimes not. So I do what I can to keep track of what they are doing, but it's not easy so I don't have much to add to a conversation about them.

That's okay, I'll be at the game and will be posting pictures!

It's a pretty big deal here, nearest Div 1 school is Texas Tech, 3 hrs to the south.

But your Lakers are #1 in the country!

Well Texas is a lot bigger than Michigan.

GVSU is about an hour away, but the 5 division one schools are all within three hours from here. People talk about the Lakers and all but the truth is that it just doesn't the attention that the division 1 schools get from the local media. I did go to school there though so I try to follow them as much as I can.

Still don't know if this game is going to be televised in my neck of the woods, but I thought I give this thread a bump considering it's only a few days away.
