Corazon Aquino, whose husband's murder in 1983 led to her running for President of the Philippines in 1986 and ending the brutal reign of Ferdinand Marcos in the former US territory, has died at 76 of cancer.

As an aside: in 2008, her daughter Kris appeared on US television in an odd show. In the spring of 2008, selected contestants on the US Deal or No Deal, which is owned and produced by Endemol, a division of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset (which is why then-President Bush made an appearance!), were invited to appear and play their games, with then US rules (traditional Dutch format of 26 models, $1 million, not the current UK/Australia-based 22 contestants, $500,000 format), on foreign sets. One of the contestants played on the Philippine version, which Kris Aquino hosted, alongside Howie Mandel. Another played on the Estonian set.

Our dear friend Ferdinand Marcos raped his (predominantly poor) people of billions of dollars which he used for a lavish lifestyle including palaces. His only major challenger was former senator Benigno Aquino who was essentially living in exile. He and Corazon returned to Manila where Benigno planned to challenge Marcos. Before getting off the plane Benigno told reporters he expected to be killed and, probably at Marcos' directions, he was shot dead getting off the plane.

Thanks to the dedication of Corazon and her supporters Marcos was deposed and fled the Philippines. The nation, famous for political corruption, had rid itself of the worst of the worst.

Nobody even mentioned it when Kris appeared on Deal or No Deal last year. Since the rules were that the contestants for a week in May 2008 (on the US show) were playing on foreign sets, with the local models and the local host, she appeared since she hosted the Philippine DOND, and I couldn't believe that it wasn't referenced that Kris Aquino's father was murdered by Marcos. Of course, too many viewers were mesmarised by the dance steps of the Revlon 26K that she introduced, instead of Mandel, on the set.

You have a mouse in your pocket? He (Marcos) was a good friend of the US since he had no problem with our maintaining Clark Air Force Base on Luzon Island. Another example of a US love relationship with a brutal dictator for because it was to our benefit.

Yeah why do you think so many Filipinos are coming here! The Philippines is a very crowded nation. Especially the main island of Luzon. The US is the land of opportunity. That's no secret. Filipinos with bucks move to the outer provinces.

It was for our defense against an expansionist communist empire.

Besides, the U.S. pushed for Marcos to resign, and Aquino also fought to keep the U.S. present in the Philippines against a U.S. Senate vote.

I'd say your assessment of U.S.-Philippines foreign policy is a little skewed.
