Kerry (http://topics.politico.com/index.cfm/topic/JohnKerry) skipped the regularly scheduled lunch; his staff said the Massachusetts Democrat “was unable to attend because he had a long scheduled lunch with his interns and pages.”

I'll give credit here. We know there is friction here between Kerry and Pickens because of the "Swift Boat" ads. So, instead of adding to the friction or giving reason to get the rumor mills restarted, Kerry stays away from what could have been another embarrassing situation.

Good for Sen. Franken. Pickens sponsored one of the worst episodes in presidential political history and it is nice to see some folks haven't forgotten. At least one guy had the guts to stand up for his party's former standardbearer. Paul Wellstone, god rest his soul, would be proud of his (once removed) successor.

BTW, you can take the quotation marks off of "Sen." He is a full-fledged member there. Hopefully, he will be there for many years to come if no other reason than to annoy Bill O'Reilly.

I'm sure Kerry put Franken up to it.

"SENATOR" Franken isn't smart enough to know anything about it on his own.

I don't follow you. It seems to me that Senator Franken is well aware of the mans identity:

"Franken, who was seated talking to someone else, did not stand when Pickens said hello. Instead, Franken began to berate him about the billionaire’s financing of the Swift Boat ads in 2004."

Franken will be a one term Senator. Feel free to come back in a couple of years and report on his stellar one term tenure.

Five years is a long time to hold a grudge! Maybe they should sit down and have a beer together.

Frankly, I wish he would have told T. Boone to take a hike. While I understand you occasionally have to grit your teeth and meet some of these guys, I really admire guys who are willing to stick their neck out. In the proud tradition of such mavericks as Eugene McCarthy and Paul Wellstone, Sen. Franken did just that.
