Whoa.
A significant number of Americans would try cars from China and India now.
Keep in mind the former General Motors had a plant in China that makes Asian market versions of the Holden Commodore (the car Obama has banned from the US) and Buick LaCrosse, and the Chevrolet Equinox, a Suzuki XL7 built at Suzuki's plant in Canada, is as Asian as you can be; the powerplant is 0% UAW -- it uses a Chinese-sourced previous-generation version of the 60 degree V6 (current versions of the 60 degree V6 are used in the Impala and built in the US) and an Aisin transmission (common in Japanese cars, but not in GM cars; Sean has been advertising this "domestic badged" Suzuki). Anyone who has purchased from GM Performance Parts a 3.4L V6 ("60 degree") may have purchased a new one from China when their 2.8, 3.1, or 3.4 versions blew up.
Anyone who has purchased a Jaguar should know it's an Indian car; Jaguar and Land Rover are the prestige brands of India's Tata Motors.
Aisin AW, majority-owned by Toyota, beat GM Hydra-Matic for the title of producing the most automatic transmissions in 2005.
Here's a notable list of cars whose powertrains are Aisin. Note the number of US "Detroit Three" cars that now use non-union Aisin gearboxes (both manual and automatic, and semi-automatic). Toyota has been omitted from this list since Aisin AW is majority-owned by Toyota.
* GM-branded Suzuki crossovers (Equinox, Torrent) (some later models may switch to the bi-partisan GM/Ford transmission; part of Ford's $5.9 billion in taxpayer money they took from the government for green cars is going to adding a second Ford plant (fourth overall) for the transmission that can be used in either brand.)
* Saturn Ion
* Fiat - Lancia Thesis
* Opell Vectra C and Opel Signum
* Saturn Vue V6 (Honda engine - in return, Honda uses the Polish Duramax 4-cylinder engine in European Civics.)
* Saab 9-3
* Nissan Maximas, Nissan Quest, Nissan Altima
* Renault Laguna V
* Volvo S60
* Jeep XJ Cherokee and ZJ Grand Cherokee
* Dodge Ram 3500-4500-5500 Chassis Cabs
* Hyundai Genesis 3.8
* Honda S2000
* Mazda MX-5
* Mazda RX-8
* Cadillac CTS
* Holden Commodore
* Suzuki Grand Vitara
* Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon
* Saturn Sky
* Mazda Premacy
* Mazda Atenza
* Alfa Romeo 159
* Alfa Romeo Brera
* Alfa Romeo Spider
* Mitsubishi Eclipse
* Mitsubishi Grandis
* Volvo S60R
* Volvo V70R
* Volvo S80
