Recently my uncle wrote a letter to his Senator, concerned about Obama's health care bill. He just sent an email to me with the response he received from the Senator. I thought some of you may enjoy reading it.

Obamacare
The USA has the most advanced and best medical system in the world. Fact. (Wealthy foreigners from all over the world come to America for medical treatment)
There are 400 million Americans. There are 45 million Americans without Medical Insurance. That means that 11.24% of Americans don't have Medical Insurance.
Of the 45 million Americans that don't have Medical Ins., 17 million are not even Americans but illegal transgressors. So, that leaves 28 million Americans without Med. Ins. What's that now, 7%???
How many extremely wealthy Americans don't need to have insurance of any kind? Medical Insurance, auto insurance (except as req. by law), homeowners insurance if there's no mortgage?
Some folks in America have the kind of personal wealth that allows them to navigate life without the insurance the most Americans need in case of a catastrophe. My guess is another 2%. I don't have any info to back up this 2%, it's just my guess (feel free to insert your own).
Where are we now? 5%. Okay, let's be generous and double that number to 10%.
So now we need to turn this upside down for 90% of Americans to solve the “problem” of the few.
General note: In the USA if you are in an Emergency Room in any hospital in this country you will be treated for whatever ails you, be it car accident, tummy ache or a rash. If you don't have Med Ins or can't afford to pay that cost gets passed on to the rest of us. Sucks, but that's the way it is.
So the geniuses in D.C.decide that there is a “Healthcare Crises”. The first Healthcare Crises was Bill and Hillary Clinton's in the early '90's. In the last 15 or so years I haven't noticed the “Crises” getting any worse yet here it is again!
And this time we have to act fast, I mean like, boogity, boogity right freakin' now or it will screw up the economy. What? It's costing our economy BIG $$$$$ every day that we delay the passage of this Obamacare bill!!!!!!! Yeah, I watched the 1 hr. sales pitch on TV. Sad.
Are Med. Cost too high? You Betcha!
Can our Med. Ins. System be improved? You betcha!
Can Tort Reform drive down costs? You betcha!
Are Dr.'s performing unnecessary test and procedures to CYA because of “Malpractice” suits? Damn straight!
If this “Community Organizer” from the southside of Chicago is left unchecked he will control all aspects of our American lives and empower his followers to do the same.
This is not about your Healthcare, it's about federal government control of our lives.
I'm fortunate in that I live in Oklahoma and well represented in D.C. I have a great delegation that vote for vote, decides like I would, were I there.
God Bless America!
One of our Senators is Dr. Tom Coburn and I will add his response to my letter below.
Senator Coburn's response to my letter follows:
My proposal includes a provision for individual health care tax credits of $2,290 for each American, and $5,710 for each American family - regardless of employment status, age, health condition, or the resources to purchase health insurance. Coupling this policy with other substantial reforms will create a market for customer-driven, portable, and universal health coverage. The Patients' Choice Act would put individuals in charge of their health care decisions and would increase access, affordability, and choice of health care plans. This proposal is a clear market-based alternative that seeks to strengthen the relationship between the patient and the doctor.
We do need health care reform in America, but we need American solutions. We do not need to follow Europe's socialized mold of a single-payer system. America should achieve universal access in a way that puts individual Americans in charge of their own health care decisions.
As a practicing physician and a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, Pensions committee, I am committed to major reforms. Thank you again for contacting me. You can read more on my website, www.coburn.senate.gov, and I would sincerely like to hear from you again regarding my current proposal. I value your perspective on this issue.
