View Full Version : Say something GOOD about AMERICA!

I tried this a few months ago and got a warm repsonse.
It seems like there is increased negative political banter and a lot of divisiveness. Enough blame to go around so I am not pointing fingers.
Say something good about America.
We just got back from a family vacation of a week of travelling this great Country. We met many great Americans and saw a lot of great American History. I was genuinely impressed by the review of American progress and history I saw at several of our stops in Iowa and Nebraska.
America is a GREAT country and we should be proud to live here. We have an exceptional way of life and an exceptional people. I don't think we are better than anybody else, well maybe just a little, but only as it applies to the pride I have for this Country.
GOD BLESS AMERICA! :flag::flag::flag::flag::flag::flag::flag::flag:

People are caring, giving, and the most generous people.
America is truly the land of the free, even if we do not see eye to eye with each other we can still be friends.

You can have 44 corrupt politicians in New Jersey, which is bad I guess, but the good thing is corrupt politicians get arrested in America sometimes. That doesn't happen so much in other countries.

What I appreciate about this country is:
1. I have the freedom to speak my mind,
2. I have the ability to better myself scholasically,
3. I have the ability, as a woman, to be able to show my face in public, and hold a job and vote
4. I have the ability to rise within a company and be respected for the value of my work and not my gender (although I still have to work twice as hard to get that respect sometimes),
5. I have the ability to live my life in reletive safety and not have to worry about bombs going off around me,
6. And most of all-that I have the ability to have the freedoms to make choices for myself, and any obstacles that I face are personal challenges that I can either choose or not choose to take.
This country is what we, the people, make of it. We make the choices of who we put in governmental bodies (all levels), so any issues that we may have about what turns this country is taking-well, stop the inter-political party bickering and battling and start working together to make amends. It's not the "other" party that is to blame for our countries major issues, it's "we the people" that are the source of the problem.

I felt that way when I got back after the first party there.
Look closer next time you are home. Everything you fought for is being thrown down the toilet. HOPE - that we will be just like they are. CHANGE - to be more like our 3rd world "friends."
Oh, sorry, this was supposed to be positive.
Ok, the worlds greatest freedom-fest in Oshkosh WI starts Monday. Barry tried to screw this up, too, with a monstrous Presidential Temporary Flight Restriction in Chicago - but we are still free to fly around it. Should be 15,000 planes arriving on the first day, making it the world's busiest airport.
 :flag:
They are predicting at least 150 airplanes next year, once Congress implements a European-type fee system...

It's a little sad that this topic has a couple dozen responses and the "why we hate Sarah Palin" has over 200.
What other country is the modifier for the word "Dream"? Do you hear of the Swiss Dream? The Japanese Dream? The Chilean Dream? The Saudi Dream?
Nope - when people want to live their dreams, this is where they come.

True
Just one problem nowadays: which America? Obama's or JFK's? Because we no longer live in the America where men and women convinced of the inherent nobility of all human beings fight like fury to stop criminals from slaughtering innocent and helpless living breathing human beings.
Just a dog eat dog snarling cesspool of bitter hatred for the Other Side of the Social Divide.
Which sort of ****es me off -- at BOTH sides, extreme Left Freaks and extreme Right Freaks alike.
But then I believe in the essential premise of the American way of life, "that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are the right to Life, to Liberty, and to the Pursuit of Happiness."
So, while Gays have the right to be gay because that makes them happy, Christians have the right to refuse them entry into their churches, too, and refuse to pronounce their sexuality "holy" and "righteous" before the God they choose to worship.
So, while Jane has the right to dump the foetus growing in her belly, Jill has the right to keep and hug her newborn son with Down's Syndrome and demand that the baby's sperm donor cough up his half of the money to keep that darling LIVING HUMAN BEING alive and well.
So, while atheists have the right to deny the existence of God and worship themselves as the highest form of existence in the cosmos, they do NOT have the right to teach their ideology to Joe's kids -- nor the right to tell Joe to shut his stupid mouth and stop telling other people what Joe truly believes -- nor the right to deny promotion or jobs or housing or education to Joe just because Joe is honest and open about his true opinions.
Nor does Joe have the right to retaliate with his own forms of thuggery against Jill Atheist to bullly her into shutting up about her own true and honest convictions.
And Bill Porn Addict does NOT have the right to satisfy his lusts by engaging in the degradation and de-humanization of Jill Porn Star, so desperate for food because nobody ever taught her how to be a bookkeeper and she didn't want to learn how to be a computer programer, that she'll accept such degradation -- especially if Jill is a child not able to make such decisions for herself, subject to thuggery from the animalized adults who control her existence.
America is a society where Americans have an impossibly high bar to climb up to: "all human beings are equal and entitled to equal Life, Liberty, and personally defined happiness -- with only one restriction: do nothing to deprive another of the same rights you exercise."
We'll NEVER achieve that goal. But America is a Land of the Free because we never say "cannot," never say "never," and NEVER quit trying to grow wise enough, compassionate enough, loving enough, honorable and selfless enough to make that precept MORE true for the next generation than it was for our own.
Which is what MY America does do well: make tomorrow better for all our people.
Slavery no longer exists. Jim Crow is no longer tolerated. And today's Black Community has hope yesterday's Black Community only dreamed of.
Something Obama's America is doing it's damnedest to destroy: the hopes and dreams for IMPROVING the world for tomorrow's Americans, of extending "upward mobility" and the Right to Life, to Liberty, and to pursuit of personally defined Happiness to all who live on US soil.
Instead of allowing Americans to define happiness for themselves, they're ramming their own "vision" down the throats of all Others, perverting elections and judicial processes and education/teaching and entertainment and the economy in order to acquire the POWER to do exactly that: destroy the "Vision" of Others in order to make their own "Vision" the ONLY "vision" allowed -- all other "visions" being criminalized and so terrorized out of public view and so literally impoverished, they die, become extinct because nobody ever dares teach True Americanism to their own kids -- which is dedication to that single precept: do NOT destroy somebody else's Equal Right to be DIFFERENT and have a different "Vision" than you have.
Which includes my neighbor's right to weigh 1,400 pounds and lie around inhaling instant waffles drowned in fat filled butter and gallons of syrup if that's his own personal definition of "happiness" -- without bullies perverting the judiciary and legislative processes to FORCE him to "get healthy" because they don't want to cough up the money to pay for his medical care IF and when he can't pay it himself.
He is NOT the property of the Great Collective -- and the STATE has ZERO rights to whatever labor that obese DIFFERENT PERSON might contribute to the Collective IF he weren't such a "stupid and lazy and ignorant fat slob" -- because the Good of the State NEVER takes priority over the happiness of that obese little soul made happy by instant gains in fat blob conditioning.
And the "vision" of "health freaks" NEVER takes supremacy over the "vision" that man has for himself.
Jog and live on lettuce all you want, dear neighbor, if that's what makes you happy. Just leave Mr. Obesity alone and stop bullying the poor sucker into living according to your own "superior vision" of what everybody else should want to be -- a little dog obeying your own orders out of terror of your BULLYING mandates for how everybody should live.

+100 !! Best darn post I've read on this topic in ages Rhet! Damn your good girl.
To janer: Sara Palin has a thread with 200 post replies due to a political ideology battle that exists more prominently due to the treatment of anyone who disagrees with Rhamn Emanuel's puppet. That's why there is so many post. Why do we post so much on such a topic?...because we already know how great this country is..and are fighting to keep it from becoming a cesspool of socialist idea's that would take our beloved constitution away from us. In other words, we fight in those threads because we already know and understand that America is great. :shhh:

...
Good post Rhett - but I'll take exception to the above.
Slavery is not only alive and thriving, it is a growth industry. The sad part is, almost half of our society are willing, eager recipients of the chains. It simply has a new face - "high taxation" and "unrepayable debt." Another word for it, similar to "time share condominiums," would be "Fractional Slavery." After all, what else can you call it when the government spends 50% of everything you produce?
And, while the black community has opportunity unhoped for by prior generations, too many of them are too willing to throw it away for the chance to "stick it to whitey" - meaning that rather than dream of what THEY can accomplish they dream only of "getting even."
Revenge is a zero-sum diminishing game, and the unscrupulous are using that sentiment to stick a stake in the heart of the Republic.
Yeah, there are still good things about America. And for every one of them there are 1,000 people chanting about how we must destroy it "in the name of fairness...."

My mom and my four daughters are taking an RV trip from Idaho to Georgia and back this summer. They had a blow out in Idaho Falls, no less than 8 people stopped to help them. In St. Louis they lost a hose and fan belt, again people stopped and helped. In Alabama they were having trouble hooking up to water at the RV park, once again total strangers came by and helped them.
All along the way they've met wonderfully nice people, who shared tips on where to shop, what museaums are the best, which RV parks are good or which ones to avoid. American people are friendly, generous and helpful. We share a richly diverse cultural history and culture that has blended into this wonderful thing we call the American way of life.
We've always talked about Idaho being "God's Country" because it's blessed with beautiful countryside and wonderful people. My 11 year old daughter called me from Grand Rapids the other day and told me "Mom, Idaho isn't God's only country! All of America is!"
From the mouths of babes.......
