We were having a discussion in WP http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?p=58203731#post58203731 and I thought this may be an interesting poll.

Seems my Doctor is not a member.
http://webapps.ama-assn.org/doctorfinder/disclaimer.do

ETA: Neither is my husband's doctor
or My kids' pediatrician.

or my son's neurologist.
or my son's allergist.
or my son's gastroenterologist.

Question: check the above web site ...Is your primary care doctor a member of the AMA?

ha, 100% "no". Doesn't surprise me. AMA ain't what it used to be.
Ask your doctor why.

Mine isn't. Why?

My doctor is in the AMA. I made an error by typing in MY Zip Code instead of just entering the State and City. The Poll count should be +1 for Yes.

I'm disappointed. Maybe I'll have to fire him when I see him next Tuesday.

I read yesterday that the AMA supports Obama care. However, they now receive 85% of their funds from non-physician sources. They no longer represent physicians. Apparently they are looses physician members by the droves.

The AMA docs I spoke with had NO IDEA that they endorsed it..........

Most were like..........no we did not! I said yes you did!

That is why the membership has shrunk............docs told me that they have sold them out before! One said that it was the reason for him quitting.

I bet you most members do NOT endorse this......

No.
I checked all my doctors and my sons doctors. No on GP, Oncologists, Endocrinologist, cardiologist, nephrologist, family practice, OBGYN, Pediatrician, Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric Intensive Care.
Both of us have had cancer and other health issues. None of our doctors are in the AMA.

Even if they are in the AMA................ask them if they support it.

Out of the docs. I asked who were members, NONE supported it. Most did not know they endorsed it.

This was about 8 doctors.........

interesting results so far.

I incorrectly assumed that a large proportion of docs were members.

Most of ours are not. The one that is OBGYN is firmly against governement takeover. He has had petitions in his office against this.

My dentist is not a member of the ADA either because he refuses to use silver crowns.

On a local talk station today someone called in and said that only 20-30% of doctors are in the AMA; a doc I talked to said he thought it was 19% but that it could be in the 20s. Membership includes not only physicians in practice, but med students, residents, fellows and retired physicians.
The doc I talked to had been a member of an organization called "Physicians Against Nuclear War" - then, they decided to change the organization to "Physicians for Social Responsibility", with a policy shift as well.

Ours is not and I am glad she isn't. She is a FANTASTIC Dr who has seen us through some mighty tough times medically and I wouldn't trade her for the world.
