The excellent thread "The Biggest Historical Event In Your Life?" gave me the idea for this.
What event, in your lifetime, was the most overrated in terms of media attention?
Here are my picks. I may think of others
1. The death of Princess Diana - This is hands down the winner, for me. An woman of no abilities and even fewer accomplishments, dies in a car wreck. The media, and public, go crazy. It goes on for a month or longer.
2. The O.J. Simpson trial - An over- the- hill athlete is tried for killing two people. We all know the media reaction. It went on for months.

Easy! The death of Michael Jackson!
A freakish, twisted pedophile dies and people react like we've lost the greatest person of a generation. Just sickening.

• Paula Abdul has a love affair with Simon
• Paula Abdul has a love affair with contestant
• Contest is rigged/staged
• Clay Aiken is gay, but Paula Abdul is converting him back

Potatogate. The man was given a cue card by a teacher with the word spelled that way. It ruined his career and the media rejoiced.

Quayle was a victim of the Democrat Personal Destruction Machine.
He was their test case. Their tactics were so successful that they put full implementation into effect, Palin being the latest target.

I have to say the "First Black President". I always thought skin color wasnt supposed to matter so it wasnt a big deal to me.
But as it turns out it looks like it will end up a huge story a, train wrecks are big news.

The entire summer there was nothing on tv but watergate. Granted we didn't have cable or satellite back then so you only had 4 channels to choose from and all of them carried the hearings.
