Since we have unhealthy obsession with race, For example: having to check a box stating that you "Are not hispanic or latino," other forms of discrimination go un checked. Since I am not hispanic. I was discriminate against twice! Below is the letter I sent to my prospective employer.
Just a quick note then I will not bother you again. This interview process, six weeks, three trips, eight separate interviews was quite an ordeal. After receiving such feedback as "Top prospect", "You would be good at it", "Hire the marine" and "You should feel good about your chances." You can imagine how devastating is was not to be made an offer. During one of my final interviews, I was told that the ideal candidate would be "young and unattached." Until this point, I naively assumed that the ideal candidate would be strong, dedicated, skilled and dependable. I guess the assumption being that I would just quit when things got tough. With experience comes wisdom. If I could not handle the job, I would not waste my time or yours. Being "attached" means I cannot simply quit a job. There is family, college tuition's, mortgages and other things. I only ask that you do not make assumptions regarding the tenacity of future employees. And please hold back on all of the glowing feedback. No one deserves to have their hopes built up then knocked down like that. This is not a game.
Have a great week,
The nightmare of age discrimination.
