Say it isn’t so, O!

Ratings for ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show (http://www.fancast.com/tv/The-Oprah-Winfrey-Show/9996/full-episodes)‘ for the July 4th week were her lowest since 1983. This is no fluke however, as Oprah’s numbers have been dropping significantly (32 percent) in the last five years.

What is the reason for the reigning Queen of Daytime’s sharp decline in popularity? In a New York Post article (http://www.nypost.com/seven/07172009/tv/game_o_ver__179659.htm), analyst Marc Berman of Mediaweek said, “There’s the fatigue factor. Oprah’s been on the air for two decades. She can last for as long as she wants to last. But it gets to the point where fans might be getting a little tired of her show.”

And yes, Oprah is in repeats now, and yes, it was a holiday week and Michael Jackson’s death was omnipresent on TV, but still, Oprah’s show garnered only 4 million viewers on average the July 4th week. In contrast, ‘Judge Judy (http://www.fancast.com/tv/Judge-Judy/90266/full-episodes),’ which was also in repeats, pulled in on average 5.1 million viewers.

Will Oprah rebound in the fall when she’s back with new episodes? The smart money would say yes, but still, the downward trend in her show the last few years is troubling. Berman went on to say, “Oprah is still, by and large, TV’s top talk show and the show itself is still healthy. She still owns bragging rights to the genre. But she’s not the force she used to be.”

Oprah's wealthy. She'll survive.

Judge Judy is annoying.

And CBS is already planning for a new daytime television show featuring celebrities, two per show, for 30 minutes . . .

Several yrs ago she said she was going to ''retire the show'' while she was still hot, and was thinking about doing it yrs ago, but i guess she had second thoughts. She no different than anyone else. Ppl like you until they get tired of seeing you, then they move on. Also it's a new generation of ppl watching her now...or not watching her.

Her audience is either: 1) all cryed-out or 2) they can still cry but can't afford the tissues, due to the recession. :((

Too bad I don't watch her. If I did I could stop to add to the numbers.

I remember in both the primary and general elections she lost a lot of her white women audience when she supported Obama over Hillary.

Gee aint it sad when it all comes down to race.

For me it had nothing to do with either race or gender. "O"'s backing of the barry showed her true moral character.

She served her purpose. She got the false god elected. Mission accomplished.

On air 20 + years...all things end eventually. I'd still rather watch her over Rosie or the annoying View.

Judge Judy rocks...

So... here are your choices so far for the reasons for the decline in her ratings:

1) Her ties to Obama makes her show linked to his falling ratings.
2) Her show was dependent on her friendship with Jacko.
3) She fell off her diet and nobody likes a pushy fat chick.

;)

Yep, that's why I quit watching her.

But also, most of her shows had become "all about Oprah".
Boring, boring.
