The night before last I went to a wine tasting party after work and had a great time. I drank, on the whole, approximately three glasses of wine and stuffed myself with some really tasty hors d'oeuvres. Since I had a long drive a head of me, I cut myself off an hour before leaving and switched to water and ice cubes. I had agreed to give a co-worker a ride home and it turned out to be a much longer drive than I expected, because she has a house way on the outskirts of town. Out where the city has encroached on the desert.
Anyway, I delivered my friend home and began backtracking my way to the highway. I was approaching one of those places where there is a housing development on one side of the road and wide open desert on the other, when I saw an animal crossing the road under a street light. At first I thought it was a dog, but as I drew closer I realized it was something much stranger and it had a full grown house cat in his mouth!
This was not a dog, or a coyote. It was almost hairless, and under the street light it was a grayish-tan color. It's tail was as long as it's body and it's head was out of proportion to it's boney body. It's snout was long and full of teeth. Teeth that held a grown cat helpless in their grip.
I can only describe the creature that I saw as The Chupacabra! YES, EL CHUPACABRA!
I only saw it for, maybe, five seconds before he was across the road into the brush, but it was a horrible five seconds that I'll never forget. I'll never forget how he rolled that big black eye toward me as we crossed paths.
At the wine party I was drinking for pleasure, but now I drink to forget, THE CHUPACABRA!!!
