"It was just really gross and it was shocking and scary," she said. "Because of their careless mistake I got hurt."
Of course, the fact that this doofus was walking around with her head up her *** texting didn't contribute to the situation in any way.

Two city workers will likely lose their jobs if they opened the hole first then went to get cones.
However, if she could approach that hole without any visual obstructions, with city workers there clanging open a 150 pound manhole cover, and her with another person by her side could not avoid falling in then she had better never try to cross a street without adult supervision and them with backup.
Hope she never breeds, or if she does she doesn't pass it along...

While she may be correct about the open man hole not being properly roped off, it is the individual who is responsible for their safety. But, then she is part of the "blame everyone else for my own stupidity" crowd.

Afternoon Emma
She even had a friend right next to her and neither one saw the hole... :wall:
Just wait this is going to lead to the next iPhone - iPod feature being proximity radar and hazard warning.
Heck Congress is probably on top of making it mandatory already.

From the article:
She said the manhole she fell in to was left open and unattended with no warning signs or orange cones. She said two workers with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection failed to secure the area as they prepared to flush the sewer.
If she was looking at her phone she wouldn't have seen signs, cones.....

How did she know there were no cones before she fell in?
They might have moved the cones in their (ill-advised) haste to get her out.

Texting is the dumbest **** to come along ... ever.
The only thing that texting is good for is sending a short message whilst in class on in an area where cell reception comes and goes and a voice call isn't understandable (yes those places still exist).
Although I have used it while hunting. but ppl that are always texting is stupid

Sigh , if only our youngest generation had been raised watching Bugs Bunny, this could have been avoided.

Wouldn't have seen signs or cones or the workers mere feet away for the entire time the two of them approached the manhole, they never once looked where they were walking?
I have to believe the two of them were that dumb, since I don't - can't believe she would walk into the whole purposely.
Still...
Assuming she she was walking forward, holding the phone before her, walking next to another person not holding a phone also walking forward I still find it near impossible to do what she did even with the phone distraction.
Like I said before if she gets that distracted she better not try to cross a street without adult supervision.
Hope she never gets a drivers license.

Texting is the dumbest **** to come along ... ever.
The ability to text is very intelligent and worthwhile, the majority application of all texting is pointless and dumb.

That is quite possible and all the more reason for hoping that neither of them ever breed...

Yes, society might have been done a service had they just left her down there and put the manhole cover back.
What I want to know, she lost a shoe falling into the hole but she did not lose her grip on the iPhone?
Did she text the person they were texting "oh I just fell in a hole"?
