Here's a sampling of what I got today. I don't tweet much but I like to see what some are sending out. There was one today from John Boehner about the tax to pay for health care but I couldn't find it.
Mark Levin: How about a prayer for Billy Mays?
Glenn Beck: URGENT UPDATE: DESPITE CA BANKRUPT, AUDIT THE FED BILL BLOCKED,WORLD AT WAR,2nd STIMULUS ON THE WAY - MICHAEL JACKSON STILL DEAD.
Sarah Palin: I am so sorry for our country's loss. See http://tinyurl.com/knyz8r
John McCain: Came pretty close, 47 to 51 - too bad 51 Senators (including 46 Dems) voted to keep a $6m program even the President thinks is wasteful
Eric Cantor: Great op-ed by General Trey Obering on the need for missile defense. http://tinyurl.com/l9372k
Karl Rove also wished GWB a happy Birthday yesterday.

You are not alone friend...my kids get frustrated because I refuse to text.....
If I have something to say, I call and leave a message....or email.
I just don't get the whole Twitter thang.

well, wife and I tried twitter. both thought it was kind of stupid. As though anyone cares that I'm going to lunch, or stopping at the dry cleaners. We think that people really just use it mainly to stalk their favorite celebrities ;)
Now, texting on the other hand..... uh...not meaning to be too personal or whatever, but some nice sexy texting between the wife and I, while I'm at work, can be sorta fun. Unless it gets me a little overly excited and the boss comes in my office and asks me to come help him look at something really quick. :))

I'm on twitter but rarely use it. It's just not useful with my particular lifestyle. I think it would be great if all your close friends were twittering via cell phone but I'm not going to do that. I twitter online, not by cell.
I will admit to watching for Ryan Seacrest's tweets while American Idol is on as he will tweet behind the scene stuff while AI is on. I also watched for Iran tweets while that was first going down. That's about it for me.

I can explain why.
After Katrina, the cell phone service was VERY spotty, as in maybe 1 out of 11 calls could make it. Text messages could still be sent and received, and we texted our landlines to our school friends so we could get in touch with each other.
Text messages can be very useful.

Yes. I thought it was rather frivolous, but my publicist insisted that I get on both Twitter and Facebook. I was very skeptical, but it has proven a pretty neat tool for rallying some pre-publication publicity, which drives traffic to the Amazon site. It is about 90% "what I had for breakfast", but i do follow Sarah Palin, Star Parker, Michelle Malkin.
Oh, and you can follow me on Twitter @LadyVernonBook

No, because I'm not a 22 year old girl who thinks everyone needs to know what I'm up to all the time. I always wonder how many of these people get their houses burglarized because they post their location all the time.
It's a useful tool for media figures, that's about it.
OTOH, texting is invaluable. Join the future!

When did our own lives become so devoid of interest that we have to be on all these social networks? I'm in one private Yahoo group with about 8 other ladies. We have all known each other for years. Other than that, it's Hannity.com for my interaction with others on the net.

Texting is good when you need to send a short message and you don't want to have to make small talk. Like when you don't really want to talk to the person any more than you have to.
I had a My Space page for a while but no one really contacted me on it so it was a waste of server space.
Facebook, on the other, is awesome, or at least it has been since last fall when everybody and their mother decided to join. I have reestablished contact with many old friends from High School, College, and past jobs. I created the account more than a year ago but it wasn't until around election time last year that things really took off. I have since deleted my My Space account.

Yup. That's exactly what I use it for. I can send the message without interrupting what they're doing. It's great for quick, "Pick up bread" "I made it safely" etc and it rocks for making both of my kids lose the game at the same time no matter where we are! :)) I think I'll do that now.

I feel the same way about my iPhone. I used to be one of those retro guys. I had a leather day planner. The iPhone replaced that, my iPod, my cell phone and gave me on on-demand GPS/map program that I can use when I want to instead of mounting one in my car permanently that has a big "steal me" sign on it.

Yes... Twitter is a very useful networking tool. Sure, lots of empty info... just like any public forum.... but used well, Twitter is a great social networking and marketing tool. Lots of people guffaw about it... but let them. Savvy businesses use it to their great advantage. It is on the edge... but some of us are comfortable there and know how to NOT waste time.
Just yesterday another 'follower' inquired about my products and they have become a customer. Interest and inquiries continually come in and my customer base is expanding and the buzz my business is getting locally is hot.
Twitter is a mindless time waster or a dynamic tool; depending on how you use it. It is one of several social networking environments that are exploding in popularity and usefulness. When you have a consumer product to sell, like I do, what people are saying about you is what will make or break you. With Twitter, etc., you can direct the content and influence the buzz about your business. That's why I use it and it's red hot.

That's why there is AAA and towing companies. You don't even need a cell phone... most Interstates have emergency phones every half mile; and if not, sitting by the side of the road with your flashers on will attract a Patrolman. Twitter and Facebook are a waste of bandwidth.

People got along just fine prior to twitter, prior to facebook, even prior to cell phones... in fact, by some estimations... better.
