This story mentions a burgler that was killed, and has been identified as the serial killer. I'm glad this is over for the people of that area.

God bless the victims and their families.

( edit) I didn't know when I originally posted this that an officer had been injured. I hope he/she is OK.

The officer who was shot is fine. It was just reported he was treated and I believe he was released.

The killer had a 25 page rap sheet, is what they're reporting now. Whether or not he should have been in jail rather than on the streets I don't know. Just glad they caught the guy.

The officer who was shot is my next door neighbor's son.
He's been released from the hospital, but has to return tomorrow for surgery to remove the bullet.

I'm glad they finally caught the killer, and I'm sure the people in Gaffney are happy that the police in Dallas saved them from having to ever deal with this killer again.

That's good news.

I'm glad they killed the scumbag. At least the tax payers won't have to pay to keep him.

Justice is done. Good. The taxpayers are spared having to house this guy. The victims I pray for.

Great news about the slug being killed. Glad that the officer was not seriously injured.

The only downside here is the wounded officer. Here's to his speedy recovery.

As Neal Boortz would say, that guy is DRT. Dead Right There.

Good riddance.

Speedy recovery to the officer.

When I heard he was killed during a burglary I was hoping that it was an armed home owner who had shot him. But regardless, at least the scum is dead.

EnchantedFrog... make sure you let your neighbor know we here on the Forum are pulling for their son to make a full recovery and congratulate him and his partner for a job well done.

I'll post an update later today as soon as I hear how the surgery went.

I've relayed the support to the family.

I'm curious to find out what the relationship the scumbag had with the two people he was with. It was their house where the incident occurred, though they were not living there. They showed up around 2:30 in the morning at the house.

Good for the neighbor who called in the report, because when the police showed up, turns out there was some identifying markings on the Explorer that had not been made public. The neighbor recognized the two people who had lived there, but they felt something was strange since it was the middle of the night and the electricity to the house was turned off.

The killer got the swift justice he so richly deserved. He was a career felon with a 20-year, 61-conviction history up and down the eastern seaboard, and had just been released from his latest incarceration in May.

Here's the update:

J.W. had surgery and the bullet was removed without complication. Full recovery expected in short order.

The bullet entered in the area of his pants pocket and first struck his pocketknife, shattering the knife and dissipating the force of impact. It could have been much more serious had this not happened.

The shooting occurred when they identified Burris as having an outstanding warrant and were going to take him into custody.

An interesting note: J.W. is a 13 year veteran who was working with a partner who was a 6-month rookie, a self-proclaimed atheist. After this incident, the rookie has now said that he is going to find a church and begin attending services.

That's good news...

The rookie should also get a strong pocket knife. ;)

Glad to hear he's gonna be OK!! Hope he has a speedy recovery. We may never know just how many crimes the scumbag killer was not even arrested, let alone tried for. The sheriff of a county near mine in NC is checking unsolved cases to see if the scumbag killer was the perp in any of them. Haven't heard if there was any connection, but the killer got what was coming to it. But I am glad that J.W. is going to be OK. Also glad to hear his partner is going to start going to church!!

J.W. said that, after the shooting, the rookie's head and hands were shaking so bad he thought he was having convulsions. When the rookie was able to regain his composure he said that he had looked into the eyes of the perp and saw death, pure evil.
