When unemployment is at uncomfortably high levels and the rest of the economy is a major problem for most Americans, is it appropriate for the LMSM to pursue this kind of angle in their stories?? Is it really a political issue that belongs in ABC's "Political Punch" column??

Malia Obama – Budding Fashionista?

ABC News' Karen Travers, Sunlen Miller and Caitlin Taylor report:

Is Malia Obama following in the fashionista footsteps of her mother, First Lady Michelle Obama, and flashing designer duds?

For the flight with her family from Washington DC to Moscow, the 11-year old First Tween sported a skirt that bears a striking resemblance to one by designer See by Chloe.

It would be one thing if the angle of this story took the Obamas to task for their extravagant lifestyles, but this seems much more celebratory and tacky.

And yet obama can laugh and laugh at the country he has destroyed.

Typical of some people who care more about looking good than anything else. "No matter what happens, it's o.k. as long as we Look Good." :eh:

First it's a blog. And second, you might have a point if there aren't countless other examples of news stories about the economy. It's like if I were to find an article from the Washington Times criticizing Obama and use that as evidence that all the media every does is criticize Obama.

First it's a blog.
From a White House correspondent at the Web site of a major network.

And second, you might have a point if there aren't countless other examples of news stories about the economy.
The point doesn't hinge on other stories. It hinges on the content of this particular entry.

Ummm, not so much. Sorry.

Sure, it's silly, but it's not getting more coverage than the economy. It suits a niche audience.

It's the same kind of Jackie O thing people are craving.

Potentially, yes. It depends on how much image building the media wants to do with it.

Malia, for instance, was sporting the Silk Taffeta Trench ($298) and black satin ballet flats with contrast trim ($98), the e-mail notes. Whereas Sasha, 8, was wearing the girls’ crushed twill trench ($169.99) and girls’ minna printed ballet flats in classic navy ($108).

* They also wore J.Crew and crewcuts flats when boarding the plane stateside — Malia wore our J.Crew Margorie Satin Ballet Flats (15933, $98) and Sasha wore our Girls’ Minna Crackle-Metallic Ballet Flats (16341, $108, Metallic Gold).

That is a total of $879.99 for two wardrobe changes. That is my entire grocery budget for two months and then some.

And?

If I had money, I'd splurge on my loved ones. They value material things more than I do, anyways.

The LMSM media cares more about the Obamas fashion than they care about the average American. Let 12% of America be unemployed and the LMSM will ask what are the Obamas wearing tonight , what are they eating , this is the second revolution, defeating Obama will be like defeating King George when America won Independence.

The next time I hear how I should sacrifice any more than I already do, the Obama's can kiss my ass.

They **** away more money on clothes for their kids to wear on one day than I can budget for my family to eat for two months.

When the Obamas turn in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of barely worn clothes to goodwill, the American people will reap the benefits. Sort of like trickle-down economics.

The wardrobes wouldn't bother me in the least if he hadn't been campaigning as the symbol of hope and change in a post-capitalist world.

WonderfulWith all the apologizing FOR America he's been doing I wonder if he'll ever get around to aplogizing TO America???

Bush was burnt on a stake for UE rates above 5% after 9-11 and Katrina. Somehow as we close in on Ten (actually long past) Percent, all we can talk about is what a wonderful statesman he is, and what a fashion Icon his wife is.

I agree, it truly is. I am sure Obama won't incur a devastating non-manmade caused disaster since the earth is in a cooling trend.

Obama is not a true statesman in the regular definition. Any quality of statesmanship is and can be defined as his camera and television presence by his definition. A true statesman would work behind the scenes like a diplomat without hogging face time.
