assuming there is an oil crash someday, what do you think would happen?
would we find another fuel source?
would civilization collapse?
think you could survive it?
think WW3 would start?
how would society begin to rebuild?

Re-invent the steam engine and hook it up to an electric motor. Maybe GM could do it or whatever they're calling themselves after the 6th or 7th bailout.!!!!

I've never heard of oil "crashing."
I have, however, seen supplies get so tight that rationing was employed.
Back in the Carter years.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Obama in the same boat.

I would hope before that time came we would have the technology of combining the Carbon molecules and water (H20 + C02 +C0) to make homemade Gasoline. Either that or have a portable fusion generator. Back to the Future:pray:

As oil becomes scarcer it will become more expensive. This will make other sources of energy cheaper by comparison. It will also make it economical to exploit those alternative sources of energy. This will encourage people to switch to alternative sources... all without the meddling hand of government forcing things on people. This is the wonder of a market system. Unfortunately, the government tries to get involved and invariably screws things up.

Oil isn't becoming scarcer at this point, but is becoming infinitely more expensive thanks to the government. Sure, its a great goal to encourage alternative sources, but what they are doing is penalizing conventional fuels in order to promote use of the alternative, and using negative publicity to promote the idea that oil = bad.

Many of the people who complain about the high cost of gasoline or heating oil are the same twits who object to drilling for oil off our coast or in Alaska. The oil is there! Go get it!

All the Reps have to do is stick a drilling amendment in a bill since the dems don't read the bills anymore it will get signed:)

truts me, the reps have been trying to drill for years. I don't even see the point of NOT drilling; oil is such a crisis nowadays.

how would society begin to rebuild?
would we find another fuel source? - not anytime soon and none so versatile or economical
would civilization collapse? - possibly... at least suffer a serious set back
think you could survive it? - possibly... much depends on the degree of collapse
think WW3 would start? - possibly... depends on who has what and who wants it
how would society begin to rebuild? - slowly and not to the same level of comfort and convenience

well someone earlier recomended steam power. I think the average person, with all their modern "comforts and conveniences", would not be able to handle it. not many people would die, probably. WW3 does seem like a possibility, though, because the oil crash could trigger a resource war that drives some countries to whip out their WMD's...

Steam is not power... the energy that makes the steam is the power source.
Incidentally, hydrogen is also not an energy source... it is a storage medium... like a battery. Petroleum, coal, (hydrocarbons in general including natural gas and wood) and nuclear are power sources... as are wind, hydro and solar. And deisel and gasoline are "densified" energy sources. All have their place, but no combination of the so-called "renewable" sources are capable of replacing hydrocarbon fuel or their derivatives any time soon. Any significant disruption of these non-renewable energy sources will result in collapse of the economy and most probably the society.

Now, just how do you propose to heat the water, to generate the steam, without burning a fuel that creates so called greenhouse gases? After all that is the "purpose" behind restricting the use of oil - to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

If by crashing, you mean running out, no matter how little the rest of the world has, America will still be sitting on billions of barrels of the stuff. our president and congress is seeing to that as we speak. I shutter to think what a still oil dependant planet, now starved of it's supply will do to the U.S. when they come calling for OUR oil. What will we say on that fateful day when China invades us in order to satisfy their hunger? "Hey China, before you come kill us for our oil, can you build us ten thousand tanks, planes, and ships, so we can defend ourselves? Pretty please?!?!?" "Oh, and make sure they run on wind and solar. We don't want to hurt the planet as you choke the life out of each and every one of us."

like I said, a resources war worries me the most. tensions are so high already, Biden is so weak at foreign policy, and running out of such an essential energy sources might be what pushes everybody over the edge and causes them to go to their last resort.

All can be averted if this nation had leaders who would:
1) Drill here. Drill Now.
2) Build new oil refineries
3) build nuclear power plants
4) Create business incentives which will return lost manufacturing jobs to the U.S. Especially in the steel, automotive, and truck industries.
5) Continue on a path to develop VIABLE alternatives to fossil fuels.
The leader(s) who implement these 5 things Will create a million new jobs inside the U.S. almost immediately, and will set the foundation to create millions more jobs with in 5 years. Taking the above steps will fix the American economy in the short term, will cause energy prices to fall in the short term, increase security in the short term. in the long term, these policies will end our dependence on foreign oil, and eventually all oil. It will re-establish this nation as a leader in manufacturing and innovation. The current administration and majorities in the House and Senate are doing none of this. They do not appear interested in improving America's posterity. In fact, their agenda and policies are the antithesis to America's posterity.

They don't have the sealift capacity to land and supply such a landforce. They also don't have a force projection Navy capable of protecting the ships at sea and provide air cover for the landing forces.

They could invade through our ports. They could land thousands of troops ,by container ships ,at two ports, easily take over the two cities, and then it would be over. They would own America.(Officially)
Just threaten to kill all the inhabitants of the two cities and the gutless libs would curl up in a corner and cry.
It would be easy to take us with their army. We lost all our fight.

...Yet.
It will be 30-50 years before the rest of the planet gets close to depleting their oil resources and begin the bloody task of seeking ours. China right now is building military hardware faster than we can ever build wind turbines and solar pannels.
